Location: Long Prairie, Minnesota | Hey all......I was just wondering what everyone out there uses around the pole on their casting/butt seat to hold lures. Is there one better than the rest? |

| I use the Lakewood Pedestal Pal. Works well, keep my release tools in the outer pocket, along with files. Has held up well. |

| Not making this up, well over ten years ago I purchased five plastic pasta holders, basically clear plastic tubes about 12”x 4.5” wide. Drilled holes in the bottom for water drainage, two wraps of electric tape. Lightweight yet sturdy, not too big to get in way and still going strong. Clear tubes are very helpful visually vs solid tubes imho. |

| My dad made a home build one out of rain gutter material. Cut them to size and glued them together. Someone showed from our old Muskie INC chapter showed him how. |

This, I’ve had the same one for 20 years, it’s seen several of my boats, and makes jumping into someone else’s super easy

| My 2 cents since this year I'm changing my pedestal situation drastically.For the first time in prolly 40 years I won't have one.None,zip,nada.
Prolly have tried all and many homemade ones as well and they all will work if one follows instructions.I don't.If designed to hold a doz lures I cram in 2 doz.Simply can't help myself.Inevitably lures hang up and out all over.Inevitably I hook my pants or worse-sometimes welding myself nearly in place in the middle of a release.And,always,I still end up with lures laying around the rear portion of my front deck anyway.
This year the front deck will have to carry the load.With age and decreasing agility I'm done with the hassle.Frankly,truth be told,it's rare for me-and most friends as well based on observation-to use those lures anyway.Often,truth be told, I'm surprised to even discover whats hidden in there.Seems mandatory but it isn't in my world. |

| Ha! Dick P. hits it on the head. When I first got my pedestal pal, I put too many in and got my pants hooked a couple times. Got to be deliberate in putting lures in and be mindful of any protruding hooks. I did deepen the hook slots so lure hung lower in the bag, that helped.

Location: Northern Illinois | I got rid of my Pedestal Pal and got the Lakewood Spinnerbait box to put in a corner of the front deck. It's small and versatile, holding all types of baits. You do have to self-monitor to make sure you don't overfill, but I keep the baits I plan to use during the day in it. I switch baits out to a larger box I keep in back. I kept tripping on the Pedestal Pal. |

Location: Contrarian Island | Made my own. Got some clear plastic tubes on amazon. They were 3 ft if I remember right. Cut them to 12" . 2 part epoxy together. I fish out if the back so I never get hung up... now my buds on the other hand...

| Holy wah! When I was a teenager, I trimmed Christmas trees with a big knife one summer. We wore a canvas covered aluminum shield on our leg to protect us. That might be handy when fishing from the front of BNelson's boat! |

| I love my Just Encase pedestal box. Regardless of brand or self-made I highly recommend not overloading them. Guaranteed accidents waiting to happen. |

| Howdy,
I stopped using them years ago as I fish with my dog and usually loop her leash around the post so she can hang out in the bow but not get under foot with releases, errant lures, etc. also, since I have a center rod locker I couldn’t lift the lid if I had a caddy around the seat post.

| Ruddiger fished with a couple different dogs over the years.Ended up 'releasing 'every one eventually.Quit when one 'type A' Springer required the big bolt cutter.Great companions and kept spot secrets well but... |

| Howdy,
I hear ya on that, Dick! My current lab is pretty laid back and unimpressed by everything that happens in my boat (quite the referendum on my catches I suppose).
My previous dog, however, would bark from hookset to release on every fish that broke surface. No hiding spots with her.
Thankfully, the only time she took a hook was on a fly-in when pike threw a mepps into her chin as she looked over the side of the boat. Thankfully I was fishing barbless at the time so it came out easily.

Location: Ames, Iowa | No way I could fish up front with that mess of baits. I'd get stuck too- I'm in my bare feet all the time. Or I'd fall right into it. Years ago I cut plastic rain downspout about 10" long, and they fit perfectly in an old plastic milk crate with an aluminum lip around it. I have 64 baits in it... and I should get rid of 15 of them which would make it easier to organize the rest. I put it right in front of my console, out of the way. Water goes thru it, and I can cover it with a kitchen towel when the sun's blazing. And I still throw baits on the ledges and the casting deck and have to step around em. |
