| Mercury announced they are cutting 300 jobs at their headquarters in Fond du Lac. The announcement cited higher interest rates and a softening of the market for new boats. Stated they have increased market share, but that overall demand has fallen.
Same story indicated Alumacraft has cut staff as well. Seems like this was inevitable, given that 17' aluminum boats with a 115, trolling motor and 9" screen are starting close to $50,000. Even when you account for inflation, prices have gone up well beyond inflation. Wonder if some changes will come from this. |

Even the lowly Alumacraft 14' V-bottom, with no frills is going for $4300. |
