I haven't fished Lac Vieux Desert yet, but possibly this fall. Anyway, USFS has a project to change up a bridge over a feeder creek. Not sure if more wild rice will affect the fishery. Just an FYI (and a reminder to always watch the resource project bulletins in your area).

I read something about this in the past, trying to bring back the Wild Rice Beds and also to trying to bring back Walleye population and doing two things without undoing each thing. I guess if you do things to bring back it will hurt Rice Beds it will hurt the Walleye effort and doing things to help the Walleye's will hurt the Rice beds. (or a least that's how I took it) and that was a while ago when I heard of this. I think it had something about water levels and timing.
