Hello everyone,

first time posting on the forum and just wanted to reach out and ask how many times you musky fish a week? Or a month.

I was curious how many times other fishermen get out and fish.
I personally fish 5-6 times a week and strictly for musky. Some call it crazy but you can’t catch them if you ain’t there.

Hope to see some answers.

Once a week for musky, twice a week overall. On average.

Not near as much as I want to. Probably average 1-2 times a week for the whole season, with the bulk being in August and September. I hope to improve on that once I retire

I probably average 1 day per week during the summer, usually a Saturday or Sunday, and I will have 2-3 weekends per summer where I am able to fish the whole weekend. Every once in a great while I might get off work early enough during the week to justify sneaking out for a few hours in the evening.

Like you I used to fish almost every day. I slowly dwindled that down to 2-3 days a week. It pays off for me to just pick my days more based on good weather rather than hammering out as many hours as possible.

I go about twice a month specifically for muskies and try to pick days that appear to increase my odds. When the weather doesn't cooperate, I bass fish. Overall I fish about 1-2 times/week between April - Oct.

I work full time, have a family, a house, and a dog. Plus a lot of other crap that has to be done too. I feel fortunate to be able to fish as often as I do given that I have to devote time to these other responsibilities.

A few years ago I sold my home and my boat moved back home with my aging parents, My dad has pasted mom is showing signs of Alzheimer's but is way better then last year. I don't leave her much and fishing from shore sucks.
I will be able to get away for a week in October for a trip to Wisconsin. I'm retired, in 2014 I fell at work and had a bad head injury, I can drive and cast, retrieve, and figure eight no problem. Making more money, well .... I stay home and maintain it and keep a eye on my mom read a lot and work out and stay strong. Don't get me wrong I'm a happy guy and count my blessings.

I do a lot more fishing for them in spring and fall. Summer and winter are down times for me. In summer I’ll fish for them maybe a couple days out of the month.

Most weeks I get out 2 evenings after work and fish for 3-5 hours and then a good 8+ hour trip in every weekend. Lucky to live in an area with lots of options within a half hour of home.

An odd thing happened to me, I now work more and fish less than I used to. Not supposed to work that way....

I do several trips a year... this year's total would be six weeks, and put in long days on those outings. At home the nearest musky water is a two hour drive so I have to choose carefully.. I'll do a couple of day trips a month, in October, November, and January through May.

mine are more broken up into trips, usually always multiple day trips... for a whole season i would say about 25-30 full days of fishing... 70% of that is Muskie fishing exclusively.

I used to fish for them almost every weekend even in the winter. Places I fish are are 3-7 hours away. As things change like Steve said I work more and have little time off. The people I fish with can't go much either. I have only fished Muskies 5 days this year and have 7 fish. I haven't even been to LSC since 2019. No one wants to go anywhere leaving Friday night and coming back Sunday so it makes trips difficult.

Because of that I have taken the easier route to fishing salmon and multi-species more since they are closer and can fish half days. One of my co-workers just had a big smile on her face when I gave her 8 catfish fillets this morning from last Sunday.

I try to go once a week during the better months. Like some of you, it is quite a drive for me to the nearest Musky water or I'd be on it a lot more.

0-2. Work alot as well. If it's a long week than I'm half-daying on Sunday. If I have Sat and Sunday off and get home when it's still daylight on Friday than I prefer to get everything ready Fri, wake up between 3-5am and put in a full day on Saturday. Than Sunday is for crashing and burning, house chores, and cooking a good meal. Rarely but sometimes I'll do both Sat and Sun depending on weather.

I used to fish an awful lot and vacations were also fishing based.
Then I got married
Then I got a house with 7 acres that need constant attention
The had 3 girls and just found out at 40 that were pregnant again
Now we’re planing an addition/remodel
It’s tough to find the time to fish/hunt like I did in my 20s but someday I’ll get back. I’m going to Alaska to hunt caribou next week so I’m pumped for it! Basically, life happens so take advantage now if you have the time!

I did catch my PB when I was fishing a lot and at that time figured I’d break it quite easily with how much I fished and where I was devoting my time(53.75” 45#ish). Now not sure if I’ll ever break it! It’s ok if I don’t!

Any of the kiddos catch the fishing bug yet? That's the way to do it! Momma can't say no if the kids want to go

Back in the 70's if you were a guide in the Vilas/Oneida area and you got a fish a week you were doing OK. Lots of Muskies but they see lots of lures. And warm water temps put Muskies in a funk.

Used to be 4-5 and now down to 1-2. I don’t have the fire I used to, I don’t fish alone often anymore, some of my fishing partners have fizzled out for various reasons and life always seems to get more busy as time goes on.

I’ve even started fishing walleyes and trout/salmon occasionally. I probably shouldn’t admit that on a musky forum.

For the first time in like 18 years, I get to go to Ontario twice this year. Our first trip the end of June was decent, and I am looking forward to the other one next week. Timing just happened to work out this year. Other than those two trips I have nothing planned except possibly another weekend in northern Wisconsin in the fall. That would make just 16 days on the water the entire year in 23'. I am finding that I am not nearly as mad at the muskies as I used to be! And I'm not nearly as young and hard core as I once was either! Once upon a time I would fish 6 or 7 weekends in a row (from mid-July through August) a year on Cass Lake camping in a tent. We'd get up there Friday eve and come back Sunday late! If I could get in a Friday night magic hour, it was a bonus. Of course, I had to get through the Twin Cities traffic to do so! And that meant leaving work a bit early to beat rush hour. I wish I would have done that more now that I no longer live there. That is one of the things I really look back and say I would do over in life. If you can do that, go for it! We would also go to Canada twice a year as well and also fish a few weekends in N Wis. I used to get about 40 full days on the water. Now I sort of pick and choose when to go, when my pocketbook says it is O.K., when my wife agrees with it, and if no family members have health issues I need to attend to (which obviously takes priority). To add to that, the bodies of water I prefer to fish are further away since I live in Wis now. So this year I feel blessed to get 16 days!

I just invested about 170 in a 300 copper reel with line yesterday. Nothing wrong with it when I reel in a nice King or laker with it. I caught a steelhead on my other one last Sunday surprised me.

Work way too much M-F. Try to get out Sat or Sun, and occasionally both but not very often. Sometimes it's hard to get out of bed Sat morning after a bad week at work but feel "cheated" if i don't get out. Our lakes suck for summer traffic so timing is important. Not so much having people running around me but the ramps just get plain stupid. I call it the "Zoo". Sunday you can time it when church lets out...lol.
