| Looking at the Ugly Stik GX2 Spinning Reel and Fishing Rod Combo for a shoestring budget musky rod to throw lures and livebait that are a bit heavier (like 2-3 oz). I would order it off Amazon as a 7' Medium Heavy with a 50 size Reel. Do you think this would work or be a decent rod and reel for its price ($50)? Not a dedicated musky guy just go out the occasional weekend. |

| Sounds like a decent catfish setup, for musky, not so much. Kdawg |

Location: SE, WI. | I got a Berkeley E- cat rod I’d sell for $30. Lure weights, 1-5 oz, 7’6”. Excellent condition. JD |

Location: oswego, il | What is the reel? I would throw smaller baits 7" and under. The other thing to consider is handle length can you tuck the rod handle under your arm?
I have the rod in a medium light spinning and it's a perfect budget rod for what I need it for.

Location: PA Angler | It should work on getting them in. Just watch for heavy currents if they get in there might not be able to pull the big ones back out. Also don’t over weight it with the big lures that’s when you can really snap a rod. |
