What was the thread earlier this week, if you get hooks in one, don't bother to go back on it that day?

Talk about hungry...

Before I watched the video, based on your caption, I thought the fish was going to jump into the boat on her own:)

Musky God's were definitely on his side that day or maybe he had the lucky horseshoe hidden somewhere. Lol

That's alright, just make me feel bad about my technique before the weekend, that's fine. ;D

My wife hooked one last weekend got half way to the boat and it jumped and bait came flying back to the boat. She cast right back and the thing exploded on the bait again. Got it in the net that time, but it was nowhere that size, 35 inches but still cool to see. When they really want to eat it sure is fun.

The musky God's have shined on me in many different ways but not that one. Can't complain though.

We were doing some night trolling on Wednesday when we decided to change baits. During the changeover we drifted onto a reef that topped off at 8'. 30" fish decided to smash a 10" jake that was floating next to the boat. Didn't want to net it and after one jump and some slack she popped off no worse for wear. Good stuff

Real good lesson there.

We tend to anthropromorphize what musky are experiencing (they won't bite that "hook" again) - when in reality to them it is prey that is a fighting back a bit. Consider that a pike, muskrat, spiny rayed fish, young gull or duck is not going to go down without some struggle. That headshaking in my view is a musky's way of putting the coup de grâce on some prey that is struggling.

PS like the lack bump boarding footage (not against someone doing it if they want, just redundant to see it).

LOL...that's my brother and myself in the video. Good clean fun right there.

Actually, he had pretty much the exact same thing happen a few years ago with a different fish that was 50" class as well. Hooked it at boatside and it got off...Seth kept the bait going at it ate a 2nd time. Unfortunately hooks popped out the 2nd time and the fish didn't come back....Maybe he'll post that video here as well.

As to no bumpboard footage...not trying to do some kind of fishing show...pretty much just make these videos for our own enjoyment and then share with a few good friends. We know what the fish measured.

Years ago I watched a guy fish some fishing show on the internet or whatever and he had grub and spinning rod catches a small Muskie unhooks it holds it up for the camera throws his grub over the side of the boat and let's the Muskie go, the muskie grabs the grub and he catches it again, unhooks the fish same thing again and then on the fourth try the Muskie tries again an he pulled the grub away. That was the fish of 1/3 casts not 10,000.

Very cool video. In my 38 years of musky fishing, I have only seen it personally 2x
one was a 37" a few years ago customer had it on it hit way out fought it to the boat it got off boat side he started figure 8'ing and it turned right around and ate it.
Then this year I had a 42" eat on the 8 it got off and came back and ate it again

Boy that thing was hungry decided it was good and wanted it bad. I’ve had it happen on the fly once was letting the fly swim in the current next thing I see one come out to hit and you guess it I got excited and hook before it had it in it’s mouth. So I did the same and it came out of nowhere to grab it again and this time I waited and got it.

Great fish and vid and really good lesson on a hot fish - don't give up yet...

Any vids like that welcome for sure, catch or not - plus kudos on not feeling need to put bump in the vid - need more of that just to kind encourage more of the folks making vids that you don't need it (especially really small fish and fish that could do with less time out of water).

curious if there where other muskies on that spot? I have witnessed some very aggressive muskies when other fish are on the same spot.

Hey... that's me! Funny how stuff makes it's way around the internet. Regarding no bump... this video was never meant for mass consumption. Watching fish on a bump is not that interesting to me.

After I give the "UGH!", there is a moment of silence when I noticed the fish did a 180 back at me... so I'm like, what the hell... lets keep it going. I do have another video of the same situation that doesn't end well... I'll try to find it and post here.

Doonan... I did have a different fish up, four foot variety that wasn't all that charged up that went around several times, just a few casts earlier. So yes... multiple fish.

Those are some pretty cool videos! I've seen it happen once with a medusa but the fish was nowhere near that size. Are you guys keeping your hooks sharp?

I did this once with a dink 30-32¨ purebred on a bone super spook. Casted out and watched it eat, shat myself as you do for your first topwater musky eat, then gave her the beans a little too early and pertnear hit myself with the lure. Went away for a few minutes to give the fish a second, think I sat on a rock and ate a sandwich. Anyways, casted out again and fish smoked it again. That time, I succeeded in catching the fish

Awesome video.
I once had a 30"er hit a spinner bait, hook up, jump and throw the lure about 15 feet. Then, it proceeded to zoom over and grab the bait again. Stayed pinned the second time.
