I was recently asked what method that I use to build my one piece thru wired baits. A wire slot first gets cut into my blanks on a table saw while still in block form. Then I cut wood strips that fit tight against the wire and get epoxied into the slot. I prefer this over filling in the entire slot with resin, which can lead to cracking over time as the wood expands and contracts. I also hate drilling all the way through these longer musky cranks and making drop wires for hook hangers, so this is how I do them all now.
Also, my blanks and strips get a few coats of Minwax wood sealer before putting the wire in. The strips are epoxied in with 2 ton.
