Find your best local reel repair. And as fishermen we should cheek all our nuts and screws. I think we all know someone who's fought a Muskie with rod in one hand and reel in the other.

I just mentioned this in another thread. The same thing happened to me, and I sent the reel to Shimano reel maintenance with a note like "side fell off", and they replaced it for whatever the normal repair fee is.

Here's what I do before I fish.
1. Bring rig in cabin every night. (in spring and fall in could drop below freezing)
2. Is your reel firmly screwed down and held tight on your rod? (this had a way of coming lose on rods from a generation ago)
3. Cheek all screws, knob's, wiggle side plates ECT. ( Had a friend lose the knob off his spool control)
4. Cheek drag.
5. Everything oiled and lubed?
6. Cheek line and retie knot.
7. Cheek guides and tip top.
8. Inspect your leader.
Go down cast of the dock with floating bait, cast and inspect everything.
This could save you a trip to town and the story of the one that got away!

Right side plate on a 400 or right side plate on a 401?

Call Dave's reel repair in Vernon Hills, Il...847-549-7170...He will get you the part...
