Hello!

Extremely new muskie guy here that lives in Central MN and would like some advice on where to try. I know of a lot of lakes that have muskies in them, but have never fished any of them for muskies specifically yet. Which spots would be go-to's for this next season?

Thanks for any help at all.

There are guys on here who guide in the Twin Cities and Mille Lacs. Hook up with a good guide for a couple days and see how your learning curve improves. Also, join your local Muskies Inc chapter and learn from those who have been around your area a while. https://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=13...

Central MN has a lot of great Muskies lakes. Pick the one closest to home and learn it. I would not suggest Mille lacs if you are learning Muskies. That’s more of an “advanced” lake. Very difficult and I can promise you will not have much action with or without a guide. Look at DNR lake finder and see if the lakes near you are consistently stocked with Muskies. That’s where to start. A guide will definitely shorten the learning curve. Muskies are hard to catch. Learn everything you can from YouTube, Muskies inc, and some TV shows. When all else fails, put on a bucktail and cover water.

there are no "easy" ones left. so just go out and fish some that you think would be fun. see if you can see some fish. if you pick up a copy of the MN muskie fishing map it'll get you started. then fish stuff that looks fishy to you.

im slowly trying to fish all the the MN lakes. Have a ways to go, but its very fun getting out on new water.

I like fishing smaller baits that are maybe a bit more multi species when fishing new water. Once i feel like im zeroing in on the locations i'll start to lean into more traditional gear.

Not sure where you are in central Minnesota, but I live in the St. Cloud, MN area and there are a few musky lakes within an hour or so of St. Cloud. Lakes to try in this area include Sugar, Alexander, Shamineau, Mille Lacs, Horseshoe/Cedar Island, as well as the Mississippi River. PM me if you have any additional questions about fishing the area.
