Looking at a possible trip to Lac Seul and staying at Anderson Lodge Outpost ( Tom's cabin ) in Mid. Sept. or Early Oct. Has anyone stayed at Tom's cabin ?
Any info regarding fishing in the area would be helpful. I have fished the SE section several times and done well.
Only concern is lack of communication ( wifi / cell ) for emergency purposes.

Stayed at Kakabeka outpost (Owned by Anderson's) back in the mid 90's. Flew in and used camp boats. Pretty rustic, and at the time at least, there was no power at the docks. Stayed at Chamberlain (Lac Seul Outposts) after that, as we boated in with our own boats. Not sure about Tom's Landing - you may want to check with Anderson's about that sort of thing. As far as fishing - you'll be in a good area. If it looks good, throw lures at it. Been a while since I've been there.

Have stayed there a few times but it was decades ago.(assume its the same 'Toms Cabin' between Chamberlain and Wapesi)It was very rustic then and even though I traveled with some great mouse men,we were overwhelmed every time.No charging then, would guess generator now.Used to be near ground zero fishwise, now not so much.Boats relatively safe there weatherwise.

DickP, I'm curious as to what you think about having 0 musky possession for other lakes in NW Ontario, in particular the lakes considered trophy musky lakes? Is there anecdotal evidence that any folks are actually keeping 54+ plus muskies anymore in your view - ie is it something worth pursuing?

RE OP - I would recommend one of those sat text devices ie SPOT. I would be suprised if there is cell coverage there. There is some cell coverage maps for Telus, Bell and Rogers that you can check online - we pretty much have on oligopoly here so one or other of their maps should show what is covered given they share towers.

Edit - the coverage looks to pretty decent in that NE area

Hi.AO,just saw this.Don't want to hijack the thread so will just say IMO further regulation not needed. To the OP,sorry to sidetrack a bit.The 'Toms ' cabin area is where it all started.IMO still a decent area but there are other areas more appealing to me now.Suspect U will have good fishing but u will definitely have company.Good fishing!

Dick, Would you mind sharing some of your thoughts and experiences on Lac Seul ? I know most think that all of the muskies are in the NE section. I would love to learn more about the fishery and some of what you know. Not asking for areas ; just about some of your experiences there at different times of the year. Thanks Bob

Hi Bob.Just saw your post.Really can't/won't say much about spots or areas to fish cause the Lake has a history of adversely affecting friendships for doing so.In part perhaps because of the time and expense involved to explore the lake.Significant.
I believe muskies are present throughout the system but there are only a handful(or less)areas that supports a 'fishable' population. The biggest I feel I've seen on the lake was not in one of those areas though.
As everywhere really, fishing can vary greatly.Had one day were a Mn DNR friend and I boated 5 50s but also many days where I never saw a muskie.I've never seriously trolled the lake and only fished it once after Sept 15th.
I think the Lake has it's own weather system.Often weird unreal weather.(90 midday and 3 inches of hail/snow by suppertime for instance.)
Strange with respect to birds and wildlife as well.Fewer of most everything except one can see moose and an occ Caribou more often.
I've camped, stayed at Resorts, stayed at outposts and gone the houseboat route many times so access is generally available in some fashion so one is rarely alone anymore if solitude is a goal.
Stories and experiences?Lots but too old to write a book.Good fishing 2 U!!!!

I agree with Dick that the lake seems to have its own weather system. Probably the hardest I've ever seen it rain was up there. Storms really seem to come up in a hurry. And the fish totally relate to the weather. More than once I've had stretches where I've been going on 2 days without so much as a lazy follow, then suddenly raise a big fish, look over my shoulder, and there's a thunderhead forming. And the hour or two that follow usually produces several followers/biters. Be on your spots when the weather changes. Great walleye and smallmouth fishing, too. And the pike will keep you busy. Some real honkers in there. Haven't been up there in a long time. Our group usually goes to Eagle or LOTW now because we're old and it's easier. But I hope to get back to Lac Seul at least one more time.

Thanks Dick; I appreciate you sharing some of your thoughts. It is a fascinating ecosystem. Just wish it was closer to me. 22 hrs. from Lexington, KY is a haul. I usually stay at Moose horn Lodge. Linda Rice and her staff have a great place and super people. I have primarily fished the SE. part up to bear narrows.

The one time I was up their the third week in Sept. weather was warm and fishing was tough. Got a 45" the first ten minutes of fishing then nothing for a couple of days. Finally started moving fish on top waters. It was crazy.

PH ; thanks for your input. it is crazy how fast the weather can change up there. never seen anything like it. There are some monster pike there. Lost one that was close to 50". That was a monster. I will say spinner baits have been my most successful lures for all species there.
