Posts: 32926 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Keith has been working on a bait with 2 OZ lead, and total weight of about twice that. We will be testing the bait soon, is this too big, not big enough, or just right? The blade is 4" X 2.5". Attachments ---------------- ![]()

Posts: 743 | the blade is not too big...i like it. i assume it's silicone, not rubber? (the skirt) what gauge of wire? is that wire strong enough so the blade doesnt' bend the wire all the way down the the hooks when it's in the water? for trolling, it looks sweet. some guys might have problems cranking in that blade w/o good reels, but i think it's sweet (when casting). what in the heck is that white thing behind the bait? is that part of it? is that a trailer? love spinners. tomcat

Posts: 393 Location: Kawarthas, Ontario | Nice size! I'd like to troll that in my lake. Like Tomcat, I'm wondering: What gauge is the wire, it looks a little skinny, but I could be wrong. and the white thing?

Posts: 440 | Looks like a sweet bait. The one thing I would wonder about is if 2 oz will be enough to keep the bait from rolling over. May be hard to troll with any speed. Looks like a great "slow roller".

Posts: 1023 Location: Lafayette, IN | looks like a Reaper Tail...(on the rear) I agree about the wire. Looks a little on the "light" side. How 'bout a double Colorado? Looks like a great bait non-the-less.

Steve, I made some copies of an old M&G spinnerbait that wasn't too different from that one. Same #10 mag blade. It had 2.5 oz. of lead in the head, but the bait was bucktail instead of rubber. Three tails and an 8" twister ... huge, huge, huge. But fish did like it at times. Especially slow-rolled. I beleve the bait I made was in teh neighborhood of 16" in length overall. It really wasn't too bad to cast! I think you should consider an additional trailer hook (three hooks total) with a bass-sized skirt on it and a giant twister instead of a reaper. And if you could get an even heavier head that might be good to try, also! The bait looks pretty cool as-is, also. For what it's worth... John

Posts: 376 Location: Lake Vermilion Tower, MN | Hey Steve, I have a couple baits very similar to it that a friend of mine made for me a few years back. I love to throw them, but found they worked much better with a willow blade. Would love to try one out for you if your so inclined. ![]()

Posts: 480 | steve, i like the weight and size and should stay down for trolling. Blade may be to large for trolling fast, but good for billboard advertisments lakeside. I'd be more in favor of a large willow. The reaper tail doesn't do much for trolling, I'd apply a twin tail. See you at the MN show. cpat bigfish

Posts: 906 Location: Warroad, Mn | I've been using spinner baits like this for a number of years. The wire looks a little light. Lots of pressure on the wire with the big blades, and it will snap with lots of use. I don't like the reapertails as much as I like a big twister tail, lots more action from them. Big spinner baits like this are great for big fish. I run them high during the warm months, and slow roll them in the fall. I've done well with very large spinner baits with big blades. The ones I use are even bigger than this as far as the tails go. I used to use specially made M&G's, but Sledge51 is tieing them for me now! It really helps to have a 7000 (4.1-1 ratio) to reel these babies in! Big spinner baits just plain-out work! Doug Johnson

Posts: 32926 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The wire on the prototype is .055, we are looking for spools of heavier wire. the tail will be a big twister on the regular model, and a reaper for me. I do well on that tail, for some reason. Keith will have several blade styles, and a 6 Oz bait too. Thanks for the feedback, everyone, Keith appreciates the honest appraisals.
