Has anyone done the Canada Pre testing requirements?
What the heck is arriv Canada?

This whole thing is a mess I miss the good old days of just showing your drivers license “no passport” and laying the hammer down outside international falls at 30 kilometer an hour. lol

If anyone has went through the whole border crossing mess and would like to give a little insight it would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Yup, did the whole thing on October. Test wasn't a problem at Walgreens, had to set an appointment though. Website was self-explanatory and went went well at the border.

It's pretty simple really. Have your info and tests on hand , submit on the app, cross and go fishing.

Thanks everyone I appreciate the input! I read the border crossing requirements. I am just nervous about the 72 hour pcr results. Where I am at sometimes it takes 72+ hours to get results back.

That's a legitimate concern, for sure. Tests for travel are pretty common, though, and they almost all require the 72hr window. If you look for a testing venue that specializes in testing for travel then you stand a good chance of being fine. My local CVS Pharmacy has a special sign-up for Covid tests for travel. I bet a lot of other major pharmacy chains offer the same sort of service. Call around and tell them exactly what you need, and they can probably accommodate you.

Good luck with the border crossing and the fishing!

Hopefully by the time musky season opens in Canada, the demand for tests will have dropped. My son is in the Milwaukee area, with lots of options but after being exposed to someone with COVID about a month ago, the protocol at the school where he teaches was he had to be tested before meeting with students in person. He had to do a lot of calling around because they were so swamped. He eventually got in and had his results in 48 hours. But that was just when Omicron was exploding in SE WI.

Robert's advice is very good. Call around, explain what you need. My son felt that telling them he could not teach without a test helped.

Are there protocols for entering after having Covid? I am told that I will show positive on a PCR test for months after contracting Covid…

From what I've heard recently, almost everyone who has recovered will test negative after symptoms have passed. In rare cases, they may test positive for a few days to a week after their symptoms have passed. Months after recovery? I have not heard of that happening.

I believe there are some documented cases, but it is extremely, extremely, rare.

My doctor and employer both have documents stating a PCR will show positive for 3-6 months after contracting Covid.

My experience is that I tested negative a week after symptoms dissipated. The Walgreens Rapid Diagnostic Test (ID Now) is accepted in Canada, takes a few minutes in a drive through, and get results within 4 hours. Now I was fully vaxed and symptoms only lasted a couple days, but the story I hear from others is similar.

CDC site says up to 12 weeks for PCR test. Long time but you should be clear by summer.

I cross every couple weeks as my cabin is across the border. I get tested on Wednesday and the test results have always been back by Friday morning. I have had tests at CVS pharmacy, My local grocery store and at my Clinic, the results all take about the same time. There are also PCR rapid test sites in Baudette and International Falls that give you the results in 45 minutes but you have to pay out of pocket, I think its $150. The Arrive Canada App is simple I enter the info after I get my test results. I do recommend printing off your test results and the receipt from the Arrive Canada app if you are crossing with multiple people as its a pain handing phones back and forth with the border agent.
