Posts: 670 Location: Minnetonka , MN. | They had to get it in the AM and send it out in the PM . I can't wait to try it to see if it's fixed. Already replaced it with a calcutta. The best thing is there was no charge.

Location: Hayward WI | That's one of the reasons I like Garcia's. I've sent several in, never with proof of purchase and they either fix them or have sent me brand new reels in replacement. Talk about service!! Also, though I send a note saying to call if there is a charge, which I would pay, they have never charged me.

Posts: 1046 | I never got the repairs done for free in Spirit Lake, but all the Shimano`s are always free. When either company sends you a new reel its always re-conditioned not really brand new, then the one you sent that got replaced is re-built and sent to someone else. Just as good as new though!

Posts: 1270 | I gaurentee you that a lot of the reels that ABU sends out are brand new. Some are reconditioned but a lot of them are new.

Posts: 1270 | Handyman, I used to be one of the techs you spoke to on the phone. Our first option was to fix the reel (obviously), then to give a reconditioned reel, and then a new reel. Often times we did not have enough reconditioned reels or ones in comparable shape to the reel sent in. I would say that on average of the reels we replaced it was about 50/50.

Posts: 4266 | I agree about Abu Garcias factory service. Last year I sent in 5 reels because the drags just wouldn't tighten all the way down. They came back in 2 weeks and everything was covered by warranty. I have yet to pay for any service or repair. Beaver

Posts: 1023 Location: Lafayette, IN | repaired, reconditioned, replaced with new......Who really cares? The consistant theme is customer service and satisfaction. I'm a longtime Shimano nut and they have never missed a beat taking care of me, a weekend angler. My brother-in-law is Quantum "whipped" and his stories are the same. Hundreds of you are ABU nuts and your stories play out the same way. I just sent a 4 year old Lightning Rod (musky flavored) back to Berkley because the ring that advances the hold down for the reel won't hold on the threads. I own 4 other Lightning Rods (2 are almost 20 years old!) and have never had a minute's trouble with them. Berkley never flinched. The are sending me a replacement rod, no questions asked. Wow! I bet if I told them I was a guide or that I had a big trip planned they would've expedited the delivery. I'm always thrilled to hear your good experiences with companies like ABU, Shimano, Musky Mainia, MinnKota, Mercury, etc. this tells me that the customer still has a lot of power in the marketplace. Don't you agree? by the way... I've worked for Caterpillar Large Engine Center for almost 12 years and when we don't have a core to recondition we build a "reman" long block with all new components. What a deal,eh?
