Posts: 425 Location: Elkhart, IN | I've talked to quite a few people that have caught muskies on RatLTraps, does anybody actually use them to target muskies?

Posts: 73 Location: Hazard KY | I use the 1 oz and 2oz traps in the spring when water temps are still below 55 degrees. I ofter use flo/red or orange. and fish sunny dirt flats or shallow coves. My best trap fish is only 45 inches but i have seen them caught over fifty. Make shure you replace the front hook and spitring with a bigger size. I like to tie flouro carbon to the lure then attach it with a ball bearing swivle to the main line. oH yah use a soft rod Good Luck Chris Haley www.kentuckymuskie.com

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | Who sells the 2 oz traps? I checked Rollie's and the 4 3/4 incher is only 1 1/4 oz. Is the 2 oz one like 6 inches? Are you Burnin' em in or slower with rod tip up? By the way, home page on Rollie and helens says 10% off in stock orders

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | Rattle baits work well in the spring. I prefer Producer Tackles "Rattlin' Shad" over the Rat-L-Traps. These baits are just a hair smaller, but have more bb's and a louder rattle. Also these lures already come with heavy split rings and heavy hooks. You definately need to BURN them. One rule that I like to have when I am throwing the Rattlin' Shad is, if I'm not picking up crap off the bottom on every 3-4 cast, then I am not shallow enough. A faster tip rod, like a 7'6 medium action works best. Burn, Burn, Burn. You need to start cranking AS SOON as the bait hits the water. These lures will put more fish in the boat. Mike Hulbert

Posts: 425 Location: Elkhart, IN | Great responses, thanks guys. I'm going to guess I got a good one then by the color and size suggestions, I bought a Red Firecraw Rattling Rap, in a 3/4oz size. Hopefully not too small but I'll keep my eyes open for the larger versions.

Posts: 5230 | The ones made by producer tackle are so much better. They first off are louder ,and second come equipped with musky type split rings and hooks. The producer version is the way to go.0723 Bill Ramsey Edited by 0723 1/23/2004 1:35 PM

Posts: 1335 Location: Chicago, Beverly | I just got my BPS Saltwater catalog today. By Mann's tackle(p97) I found the Magnum Manniac 6.5" 8oz?? Its a rattlin' bait but not sure if it would be good for casting... They also list in the catalog some oddball weights/lengths for Rapala Rattlin Raps, srnr08 5-1/4" 1-7/16oz(p103). Not sure if that's right as Rapalas website lists it at 3-1/8" 3/4oz. The last rattle trap type bait I found is a Bonita trolling lure(p101). It comes in sizes from 2-7/8oz up to 16oz, lengths range 5-5/8" to 16".

Posts: 1046 | I think the 2-Lewis ones I have are an 1 1/2 oz. They are rather old. I do have that red/orange one that I think I will have to try this spring.

Location: Athens, Ohio | Question: I found a floating salt water 3/4 oz. Trap at Boatersworld; anyone ever tried a floater? Thinking it might be good for the real shallow bay backs at Cave Run. thanks, m

Posts: 642 Location: mount prospect illinois | I have a few magnum floating traps that work great. The biggest in my boat is a 44" from the fox chain caught by a buddy. Hopefully the pic posted so you can see they work.

| The regular TRAPS work just fine also. | |||

Posts: 3242 Location: Racine, Wi | Mikie, the floating traps are great when fishing shallow, but also over high weeds. I wish I could find some again, as when I had some, I had some good action using them in a bucktail type situation. Good Lungen, Joel

Posts: 1237 Location: South Portsmouth, KY | Rat L Traps are a must in spring down here in kentucky. To give a better action attach a 6 inch leader stright to the split ring on the bait instead of using the leader snap. Gold and Chrome type colors can really shine in the spring.Good fishin!

Posts: 544 Location: Alsip, Il | Nope no good, especially on Cave Run and Green River!!!! Leave them home. Just kidding! If I go down to Kentucky in spring, they are one of my confidence baits.
