Posts: 726 Location: Eau Claire, WI | OK, off topic but I just bought a "new to me" '99 GMC 1500 truck. I need a topper, rubber mat and plastic gate guard. Any brand and source recommendations? What are decent prices? I want a fiberglass topper - what should I look out for? I see a lot century tops around here - a buddy of mine just bought one new for around $1500. I see cabelas sells mats for around $70 and gate guards around $40. I'm not opposed to buying used so if someone out there has stuff to sell or knows a good used source, let me know. The truck is white so I'd want a white top for the bed. I'm in Eau Claire, WI if that helps with store locations. Any advice? Thanks, Jono

Posts: 1335 Location: Chicago, Beverly | For the topper I like the look of Leer brand stuff. As for Bedliner stuff, I like the rubber mats, but also the drop in liner(like duraliner). In my Dakota I had both, liked the combo as that way the sides and bottom of bed were protected. Don't know how much a duraliner type protector would cost though.. As for the Rubber Mats, hit Kmart and/or Walmart for best prices, I think..maybe some auto parts stores also, before ordering from Cabelas as the catalogs will get you for extra shipping (I think) because of the weight. Almost forgot, the wedge type toppers I think cause a little drag(think gas mileage), so I would go with one flush to the cabs roof height. If you keep valuable in the back one with two T-handles for the glass lid, single T-handles can sometimes be popped open kinda easy. Tinted glass, and a slider window by the cab side are both good. Had to transport 2*4's in my truck a couple times, 8' long and had a 6.5' bed, slid them through both sliding windows rather then have the gate down or the topper hatch open.. Posts: 5874 | I have an ARE cap for my truck. Absolutely the best cap out there. Lifetime warranty. Best windows, rear door, fit, and function. I even added the fabric on the inside, looks nice, and is quieter for the dogs. I would get another on my next truck, in about 7 more years! I also have a Penda-Liner SR in my bed.

Posts: 1438 | I second ARE. I have had mine for a couple years now. Had a leakage problem near the frame on the rear window. After having it in to the dealer twice, they couldn't fix it. It was removed, shipped back to the factory, shipped back to the dealer and reinstalled no charge. The quality is excellent and the paint is an exact duplicate to the truck. Scott

Posts: 389 Location: Corning, Iowa | We had a Raven topper on. I think they also make Glasstight. Got along the best.We ran it on three different trucks, no troubles. I like the OT part. That's my license plate. I say it's overtime. Our kids say old t**d. Thanks Doug

Posts: 373 Location: Huber Heights, Ohio | ARE is the only cap I will buy. I have had 3 and my dad has had 2 since 1992. We have had no problems what so ever.
