handmade, hand-painted? more???
$25 is my max. plus now you have to buy replacement rubber parts.
do the $60-$100 lures actually sell?

Location: Chisholm, MN | Yes they all sell to well over $300. You’re definitely limiting yourself if $25 is the max. Maybe cap it at 35. That will open up more options for you. I don’t think I’ve spent over $100 on a bait but definitely close. If there’s something I want I usually buy it regardless of price. |

Location: oswego, il | Lures are tools. What will the tool do for you? What can you make it do? How does it apply to the situations you fish? A lure's worth is one that is effective for you at catching fish in your situation. There are expensive lures that are worthless to some while gold for others. The same holds true for cheaper lures. |

I'd be afraid to throw anything more expensive..

| You’d be hard pressed to find a lure under 25$ nowadays, heck a suick is 24.99. As material cost rises so will lure prices. The resin baits will last a long long time though. So take that into consideration when you see price also. 25 for a bait that may last a season or three or 60 for one that goes ten plus. |

Location: Northern Illinois | I remember when gas was 60 cents a gallon. But that would still equate to over 2 dollars today with inflation. i.e. you may need to recalibrate your scale. You can get some really nice lures in the $20 to $50 range if you watch this board, ebay, shows, swaps, sales etc.
Besides, $25 is not the problem. $25 * 100 (or 200) is the problem.
I wouldn't want to skimp on the lures I really want. But I know I don't need so many of them. So, if money is an issue, or you feel it's not right, maybe just get a handful of nice ones and work with that. |

| Guys should also consider stocking up on replacement parts, hooks, split rings, eyes, tapes, paints, tales. Repair lures that can be repaired, replace what NEEDS to be replaced. As far as a dollar amount goes, I don't know for sure. Kdawg |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | My max is $35. I have several lures that have cost more than that, but rarely catch anything on them. Paint buys fishermen as well. Don’t overpay for a custom paint job that attracts you. Can a fish make out the scale pattern at 3 mph?
I find a lot of high quality baits in the $14-$25 range. Llungen, slammer, ERC, chaos tackle, musky innovations, musky frenzy, tna twckle, etc make baits in that range easily. |

| Looking at my lures, one that I would pay $35+ for if I had to get a new one is a Fat Bastard that has produced well for me. Otherwise, don't see many I would pay more than $25 to replace.
But, I have seen lures at shows that were really incredible, hand crafted and painted. There I think you look at it as supporting a craftsman as opposed to the functional value of the lure. |
