Posts: 568 | I might not be able to remember Jack Schitt .. but I know every hump/bump/weed/saddle/point etc etc on the Manitou . Funny how that stuff works . I dont need a chip for the up there , 25 plus years experience . and it can still humble you like no other . Tough lake , but insanely beautiful and peaceful .

Posts: 323 | I got the Lakemaster chip for vermillion last year since out wabigoon trip didn’t happen. Never been on V before and the Lakemaster chip was awesome. A few nights we were coming back to camp at Spring Bay Resort in total darkness and I was never worried. Just followed my trail back. The hazards are all clearly marked on the map. I’ll be back up there at Spring Bay from July 21-31 and again the last week of September.

Posts: 568 | Quick update , we are not exactly knocking it out of the park , have not seen a muskie but haven't pounded the water , probably 6 hours a day .. been out at dusk 3 nights . Group has got 1 26.5 inch walleye and 1 four pound smallie , but no numbers at all. 2 pike , 6-8 smallies among 3 boats . Been fishing the Taylor island area , and center Island reefs -- stove and merry go round . Pretty tough .

Posts: 568 | Did raise 2 today , both the same area , maybe I've discovered a place that holds some fish . One about 37-38 followed a crawdad3 inch crank while bass fishing , the other a 10 blade spinner with a 9 inch perch colored shad body behind it ( homemade ) .. it was about 40-41

Posts: 50 Location: Mississippi | I had 3 follows today and watched one get caught. I lost two Muskies Sunday, but caught 36” & 40” Northerns, one Walleye 29.5”. Been fishing 10 hours a day. All Musky follows have been in deeper water with reefs/rocks. Monday had 0 follows. Edited by Handy1 8/3/2021 10:37 PM

What are the water temps ? The main big time guide up there would say you have to hit 30-35 spots a day to have success. That means fishing long hours and moving fast. 6 hours probably isn't going to cut it, especially if you don't know the lake very well.

Posts: 568 | Bare honesty --I've caught enough , no way I'm working like a washing machine to catch another . I'll wait til border opens and go back to the Manitou where I know my way around .

Posts: 4080 Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | Kirby is right .... If you want to CATCH Fish you have to be on the water, 10+ hrs. per day... Pound 10-25 different spots each day. You get out of it what you put into it.

Posts: 568 | I get plenty out of being on the lake , watching otters , seeing an eagle . Its all good , I dont have to kill myself fishing and make it exhausting to enjoy my vacation. Of course I want to catch them , but I'm not into 14 hour days as I get older .

Posts: 4080 Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | I hear ya...A few hrs. out on the lake is still 100 times better than 1 hr. at work. Being satisfied and having fun should be the end goal sometimes.

Spent most of the day Tuesday on the chain where I retired, mostly casting but did some trolling after supper. Only thing I had to show for it was a dink that came off at the boat while I was deciding whether to try and just release with a long needle nose or net it. Still a great day on the water. As an old guy who didn't see an eagle until I was 20 and then on a remote lake in Canada, I still love seeing those big birds.
