Posts: 294 Location: Suspended | I use Pop-Up Blocker by Panicware, it was free. It works fine on my Windows 98 machine but I had a little trouble with it on Windows Millenium (ME). I'm pretty sure I got it at www.downloads.com and typed in a search for pop-up.

Type in "helponthenet.com". Check out the forum pages and do a search under your question. You will find a bunch of posts (not unlike the musky boards) which will point you to free downloads for blocking pop-up and cleaning your computer of nasty spy-ware. Sort of the computer nerd equivalent of "What is your favorite lure?" The board users generally discuss the pros and cons of each program, so you'll know which ones are best. I know little of computers, but found this site VERY interesting and most helpful. Sounds like you might, too. I've downloaded a couple of free pop-up blockers and three free clean-up programs which work great (none will find everything). Besides pop-ups, it will blow your mind the volume of spyware that wiggles it's way into your box when you're on the net. BrianF. Twin Cities

Posts: 642 Location: mount prospect illinois | Two questions: 1. are you talking about the type of pop up adds that are grey and come onto your desktop whenever the computer is turned on? 2. IF so, do you have windows XP? I had that annoying problem until i simply checked a box in the configuration and walla. no more grey pop up things. Otherwise, some of the pop up blockers mentioned are good. One problem is some of them will also block web pages from popping up when you want them (IE: clicking on a link on one web page and another one pops up to show the page you wanted.)
