Posts: 268 Location: Central Pennsylvania | I was wondering whether there was one size that will fit most average applications, I have a mini medusa that needs new hooks, along with several other baits of different kinds. Along with that, what size split rings? Sorry if I seem unintelligent, I am far from even a intermediate level musky fisherman. (I don't throw pounders or anything over about 10 inches)

I did what JC suggests. Local sport shop sells trebles you can buy one at a time if you wish. Got the right size Plano, bought a few of 4 or 5 sizes, put the box in the boat and if I run low, go back and pick up some more. Box and a decent assortment of hooks cost less than one mid range musky lure. I bought a Plano that fits in the compartment of my Lund designed to hold them in slots and it is very convenient after you have cut a hook to pull out the box, replace the hook right then and there. Also put a few different split rings in the same box.

Posts: 358 | the right hook is is probably the best answer. and agree with above setting up a kit with a few misc options is probably best otherwise a 3/0 will work on just about anything.

Posts: 200 | If I were to have to use one hook for most applications it would be an owner st36 3/0. They are sticky sharp right out the package and are suitable for replacing hooks up to about 5/0.

Posts: 114 | Hi Brendan, All good answers, size of bait dictates size of hooks. It's becoming more popular to change factory hooks to 1 -2 size larger. But if you only want one size, I believe a 5/0 would be it...just like James from Tackle Ind. said. As far as split ring size, again it depends on the bait/hook set up. I'd recommend a ring that is rated at 70 pounds as a minimum. Hooks and split rings are inexpensive so why not have a box set up with a variety?
