My legend tournament from Thorne Brothers arrived yesterday. Took a month and it’s cleanly broken in half. That’s hard to do. Thorne bros packed it nice and shipped it timely. Usps is just a disaster. I bought the last one they had. Anyone know of any stores with a sling blade split grip? I’d rather not wait until April. Can’t find any online. Here’s a picture of how they taped it back together.

Nice. At least you received it but I know that is small consolation. I guess it wouldn’t fit in the delivery truck.

Pvc tube > cardboard tube > cardboard box or triangle shape. Plenty of 7' rod ship fine in cardboard but obviously the 9' makes it harder. Good luck getting it replaced and hopefully they'll use PVC next time.

Surprised they shipped usps. I only heard of long rods being shipped ups/fedex.

Thorne brothers is really good and they’ll send another but that could be a while. I had emailed a few stores asking about this rod and some said they were hoping April.

USPS lately has been a disappointment. Last 3 packages mailed at post office took 40+ days. Conversely some Amazon orders shipped via USPS took just days.

USPS used to be great up until a month or so before the election....

They started to slip when the online Christmas shopping kicked in.

Ha! I don’t mean to laugh but photo of them taping it back up like a hockey stick made me laugh... that sucks!

I’d laugh if I could get another one but they are sold out everywhere. Could be months. Most rods I order online show up broken. 3 out of 4 in the past year. This one was the most egregious. One was packed so well it seemed impossible but the tip was smashed in. They had to of been throwing it like a spear as hard as humanly possible. No decent tackle shops local unfortunately unless you’re looking for an ugly stick.

It' always a huge inconvenience when this happens and even more so when it's a completed rod, vice a rod blank. I'm on three different rod building groups on
Facebook and this is a problem for rod builders when they order blanks to build a rod. It seems the big three - USPS, FedEx, and UPS are all equally good at breaking rods. From all the complaints discussed, it's usually attributed to automatic handling equipment. A long tube goes down a conveyor belt and gets off a little, catches something and turns sideways, followed by a whole line of packages and the rod is T-boned. I wish they would handle rods by hand. Shorter rods have less problem, but muskie rods and other long ones are the most prone to breaking. The poor delivery guy is stuck with handing you the bad news. I've been lucky so far with muskie blanks, but my turn is coming.

Unfortunately things like this happens in the shipping business. All my rods shipped via USPS all have come intact!

I’ve had 2 rods delivered broken in my life. 1 was by UPS. Other by Speedee! The one from speedee had tire tracks on the cardboard packaging. Another words, it was Run Over! How does this happen?

Anyways, I’ve retired from USPS after carrying mail for 31 years. If anyone is caught mutilating any mail, parcel or otherwise, 1 will be reprimanded, or removed! They take this seriously!  I’m sure it was an accident of some sort, and this is why there is a barrage of Questions when you take the package to the window....liquid, hazardous, Fragile, and so on. Anything fragile really needs to be recognized, and Stated on package, along with a suggestion to BE Insured!

Believe me, I’ve been in this situation many time delivering packages that have been compromised. Most every time, I’ve Rung the doorbell and warned the recipient many times of my suspicions, and apology. Cases of wine and Booze bottles come to mind.

It’s time to Move on, and take your comments to a Supervisor, or Postmaster. I’m sure they will B sorry and apologetic. If Not, take it a step further over there heads. In any Case, Ranting and bashing a business that’s been in business forever,  certainly won’t help your cause Here!

I could tell you stories till he’ll freezes over, what I’ve seen and heard in 31 years!  And many would be about poor Packaging by Customers!

Don’t forget, these R Essential Workers. I’ve heard of many carriers and clerks getting COVID. Daily offices had open routes sometimes 7-17 routes without carriers on them. Other carriers had to step up and work 10-14 hours a day for weeks and Months.

It’s on its way back to Thorne bros and I ordered another from the musky shop. Looks like it will be here Thursday.

My experience and I have shipped probably 30,000+ rods... We us heavy cardboard tubes to ship in that are 4mm thick side walls. Used to use 2.5mm but had too many issues with thinner wall material.

USPS: 3 breaks out of 10 rods (Will no honor insurance) (**Use Stamps.com for USPS if you ship as they will honor their insurance)
UPS: 4 breaks out of 10 rods (Will no honor insurance)
FedEx: 0.2 breaks out of 10 rods (Will honor insurance)
SpeeDees: Less than 0.1 breaks out of 10 rods (Will honor insurance)

Sounds familiar to me. Living in the northwoods, do a lot of my shopping online. When it is UPS, rarely get a box/package that isn't bent, torn, punctured. Plus, they won't let the drivers come down driveway. Mine is about 140 feet and closer to the road, have a storage garage/shop. Rather than walk to the house, UPS will leave packages by the man door of the storage garage where my boats are. Went to get the mail in late fall, there was my $500 UTV winch I had repaired by Warn. Warn pays for you to return by UPS or I would never send a package with them.

I've bought a couple of TI rods and SpeeDee delivered them promptly and safely.

My orders from Thorne Brothers have come via Spee Dee, and have arrived both "speedy" and safe, although they do drop it at the wrong door. For some reason the drivers like to walk through snow instead of pulling up the driveway to the shoveled porch.
