Is it a good idea to put split rings on new lures where you connect the line ?
Advantages, disadvantages,...I personally think it gives the lure just a bit more action. Bulldawgs, Cranks, Gliders ect.
What think Ye ? |

| I put them on if the line tie is too small to get a leader hooked on to. Don't see any other reason to add them or not. |

Location: oswego, il | I put them on everything it's difficult to attach a leader snap to, except a hawg wobbler I enjoy that 20 minutes of cussing. |

Why just the Hawg Wobbler ?

Just bought one recently. The line tie is so small the doubled up portion of the split ring doesnt even fit. It just sits between the ends of the ring. |

Why just the Hawg Wobbler ?
It’s almost impossible to get a snap attached without one and it definitely helps the action.
I have seen split rings work their way off. Not completely but almost disastrous so I don’t use them if I don’t have to. I especially don’t use them for a primary leader attachment. It seems to be the trend these days rather than using a snap but the more you open it up to change a bait, the easier it is to wear it out and have it fail. I use staylocks and change them out often. I lost one bait about 10 years ago with one but haven’t had a failure since. Key is to change them out often. Like every couple weeks. |

Location: mercer wi | I have split rings on all my lures because I attach leader with solid rings. I put rings on all lures because you avoid the fatigue of changing lures buy only having a ring on leader. I change rings on most used bait every year sometimes twice a year. Rings are cheap at musky shop, bag of 50 is like $5. I've had people in my boat snaps fail mote then once, usually because they don't know snap is bad. I've been using rings for around 8 years now never had a fail. |

Location: Northern Illinois | Oh yea, not always easy, but I use them too. My advice is to get good ones and change them out when they are too easy to split. |
