Posts: 123 | We want to say thanks to all of you that have supported our event we cant do it with out all of you. this is what all of you supporting us created!!! First day complete for the 2020 Musky Mission Complete Main Event! Guides and MMC officers arrived earlier in the week to setup and pre-fish. Guide Gary A. Dew and MMC President Matt Gyrion both caught beautiful 47.5 inch fish. So things were looking good for our Vets. This year’s guides are: Shannon Green, Doug Dug Malsom, Gary Dew, Joe Davis, Randy Meyer and Will Walkoviak. These guys are some of the best musky fisherman in the world and they donate their time, boats and expertise to our Vets. Thank you so much! The Vets all arrived yesterday mid-afternoon. This year’s lucky Vets are: Jefferey Anderson, Adam Wychor, Keith Robinson, Andrew Crosby, Mark Jennings, James Chally, Mike Gunderson, Nathan Wickham, Barry Crook, Dan Greenwood, Thomas Bogenhagen and Tadd Vanyo. What a great bunch of Veterans!!! After everyone assembled, some great gifts and prizes were given out to all the Vets. Thank you so much to the sponsors who donated these various items. We couldn’t pull this off without you! The Vets were ready to chase muskies, but first guide Doug Malsom gave an excellent musky fishing 101 presentation on the docks. Nice figure 8’s Doug! The Vets all went out and I believe every boat had some musky action. Unfortunately no fish boated except a feisty 42 incher by MMC officer Todd Berge. The Vets all came back to camp at dark where we had some excellent “Lunch Ladyland” sloppy Joe’s waiting for them. Slop, sloppy Joe’s! The night ended with tall tales of fish and military experiences. What a great first day. Ok, Friday’s update coming just a bit late as Saturday turned into a crazy day. So here we go! Vets got up early to a nice breakfast. Nothing fancy, but when you want to fish who cares! Bag lunches were grabbed along with cold drinks and out to fish. Vets were matched with different guides than the day before to get them as much diverse experience as possible. Vet Mike Gunderson scored early with a beautiful 34.5 inch musky. Well done Mike! Nathan Wickham scored with a 26 incher. Doesn’t sound like a big musky because it wasn’t; it was a walleye! Not to be outdone, Dan Greenwood caught a 27 inch walleye. Maybe we should be Walleye Mission Complete. But to make sure that doesn’t happen, Vet Tom Bogenhagen scored BIG with a 47.5 inch musky! What a great fish. Make sure to check out the pictures. Many close calls and a few lost fish. Pretty sure every Vet had at least fish encounters. As dark descended on Leech Lake, the Vets returned to a great taco bar. They must have been hungry as we all the taco meat was gone! We ended the night with more, and taller fish stories. Belly laughs were had by all. Bed was calling as another full day of fishing was coming soon... We write the last MMC Main Event update with tremendous pride and a bit of sadness. We are so proud of the Veterans for how they bonded and helped those that needed it, to heal. We have no doubt, that yet again, this year’s event had real impact. We are also proud of how hard the Vets fished, and proud of our guides’ hard work to get them on fish. Yet, we are sad to say goodbye to this outstanding group. The only good thing is knowing we have a chance to do this again next year. So let’s get on with Saturday’s recap! All the Vets and guides were up early again to eat a quick breakfast and grab their lunches for the boat. The weather was the nicest we’ve maybe ever seen on Leech Lake. That made for comfortable fishing, but that’s not always the best for catching muskies. The Vets had a MONSTER send off by a couple special guests. Check out the pictures for a good laugh. As we alluded to, fishing was a little tough. The guides were getting muskies to show themselves, but they weren’t biting. That didn’t stop Vet Andrew Crosby from sticking a nice 34 incher though! Good job Andrew! MMC officers scoured the lake for our Vets to deliver fresh beverages. They were greatly appreciated after all the hard work. As the sun dropped below the horizon, it wasn’t looking good for the home team. Then, all of a sudden, Vet Dan Greenwood had an awesome 47 incher explode on his topwater bait. Check out the pictures, what an incredible fish! Great job Dan! After everyone came back into the cabin, they were rewarded with a first class fish fry of bluegill and crappie. This is the best fish fry I have all year! Thanks to guides Shannon Green and Randy Meyer for supplying the awesome fish! After dinner, everyone assembled for some last surprise “fishing awards”. More laughs and stories were also shared. A perfect ending to a perfect event! As we said our goodbyes Sunday morning, MMC officers are already thinking about next year’s event. To everyone reading this, get the word out to any and all Vets you know. God bless America and our Veterans!
