Posts: 14 | Hey all, heading up to Cass lake this weekend. I have been there a few times as a kid but not for at least 25 years. Taking my kids up there, hoping to see or catch the big fish I remember seeing there. Any advise would be appreciated.

Posts: 47 | Used to fish it a lot when I lived in the Twin Cities. Fished it most weekends throughout the summer from 1997 through 2004. I have been back several times since - almost always around the first week of August. Allens Bay is always a good start but it gets a lot of boat traffic and fishing pressure especially if it is windy. We fished Kitchi 2 years ago and it looked good but the 3 boated fish we got were on main lake Cass. A lot of cabbage that was on the main lake is not as good as it once was. But there is still some, but you have to look for it. Any tall cabbage can hold a fish. The main Lake rock bars hold lots of fish as well especially if there are perch there. If you get perch following, you are sitting O.K. with your casts. Also any deep water that hits reeds making an inside turn (9-10 feet plus) is usually pretty good. best of luck...

We ended up just staying in Allens bay since our campsite was at Sunset Cove. There is plenty of good looking structure and weeds to keep us busy for 2 days only fishing morning and evenings. We also went over to andrusia for a couple hours and raised a couple small ones. In Allens I think we raised 12 total and caught one little one. Water temp was 78 when we got there and dropped to 73 overnight after a ton of rain. Most of the fish we raise in Allens were over 40" so that was good to see. Never even got to figure 8 one though as they turn away before even getting to the boat.

Posts: 170 Location: Alexandria, MN | Just spent a week up there. More boat traffic than I've ever seen, and the floating weeds everywhere (especially in Allens Bay) made fishing kinda tedious. We managed to boat 3 fish... 46" being the biggest. Raised several others, but most were pretty skittish and would turn away 20 feet from the boat. Edited by phselect 8/25/2020 9:18 AM
