I've got a new soft bait that I've been working on for about 2 years now. I've been trying to get a large soft bait (about 12" long and 1 1/2" wide) that works like a topwater bait with a snake like action. So far no luck on gettin it to work topwater like I want it to. It started out way, way, to heavy , so I trimmed the mold down to about 1/2" thick poured a few more & tried it again. Still a little heavy & it still doesn't have that head up snake like action that I'm looking for. I know if I can get this thing to work like I know it can (if I hit the right combination) it's going to be a killer bait for the larger fish (Like Muskies)that will take a topwater lure.
Even though it does not work topwater like I want it to, it does work really great as a big jerk bait. It will glide along for about 3 feet, give it a jerk and it will take off an a totally new direction. Sometime left, sometimes right, sometimes straight up and pops out of the water, sometimes it will dive deep. It will noramally run about 3 feet deep. When it glides, it always goes straight till you twitch it. If you just cast it out and let it sink it guides forward head first at about a 10 degree angle down in a slow fall. I tried different plastic additives to get the topwater action that I wanted, like float beads, salt and such. So far the plain and salt bottom ones have worked the best as jerk baits. The others just didn't work very well at all. So, I'm wondering if there is a market out there for a large jerk bait of this type.
If I do decide to market them I already have the name picked out. I'm going to call it The "Big Jerk". No I didn't name it after me.
Do any of you think that there is any kind of a market for a lure of this type and with this action?
I'm still working on my topwater bait for big fish.
Tnx Rick L.

YES! take a real hard look at what's out there....Yours sounds like 1 of the better new baits.Sounds like the R&D is pretty much done. Now is the "marketing" side o' the coin.If this bait could win a major tournament...who knows..I'll be the first to offer a thorough "field tester"for your "2004 Amazo" lure if you need..LOL

I'm surprized that hardly anyone has commented on my new lure. I figured it would spark great interest.
Anyway I would post a pix of it if I had an idea how to do it. Can anybody tell me if you can post pixs here and if so how?

When you post to the board, look below the text box before you click on 'submit, and click on the 'Attach a file to this thread after posting?' link. Have the picture available in a file on your computer, or on a CD or floppy. Keep the picture size uner 200KB. To find out what the properties of the picture you want to upload are, right click on the image and click on properties. If the picture is too big, right click on the image again, and click on 'open with'. Use a photo editing program to reduce tihe size of the file.

Welcome to MuskieFIRST! Get a picture of the bait up on this thread, and you will get a reaction, of that I am certain.

FF,

They got Muskies in Idaho? Bet Stever would trade you a couple MF boat stickers for a couple of them plastics!

As far as making this thing more bouyant. Is there any way you could mold in an air chamber? How about filling it with foam, or would that kill the wiggle action? Gotta be some way to make it float. Anybody got any ideas? MuskieE? Jlong? Matt?

Looks like a Sluggo which I use often for a throw back bait. How does it compare to that? I like bigger baits each and every year, so even a bigger version of a Sluggo would be good.

Hi all that asked about my bait. I hope to have some prototypes available in about a month. I will sell the prototypes for about my costs plus shiping. To get some out there and see how they work.
Yes we have Muskies here in North Idaho. They are the Tiger Muskies though. The lake near me has been putting out a new state record every year. It's up to 40 pounds this year. Goes up by about a pound every year for the last 5 or 6 years.
Anyway, anyone that is interested in getting a prototype of my bait. Send me a email to [email protected] I think the cost on my prototypes will be about 3 or 4 bucks plus shipping . They will come already rigged with a 6" steel leader, as I had to special order the hooks for these.
I also have some other interesting baits in the works, but are not ready yet.

Hey Muskyboy,
My bait is differant from a sluggo in the fact that a sluggo is much more of a round bait. Where as mine is fairly flat and wide. My bait ia a little over 12" long and 1 1/4" wide, so it put up quite a profile. That is the largest Sluggo you can get?
Here is a pix of it that shows the size better. I'm still working on the eye part.

I too, am working on a new lure. Quite tempting! I don't know how it can be resisted.

I agree with Mr Sluggo about the line tie, the lower the better. second altough it may seem detrimental, try adding some wait to the tail so it sinks tail first, not head first. you may be surprised.

If your really getting expirimental I'd try to get a snake like action by using a stiff thru wire construcion and somehow integrate a jointed version, Just a thought,

Last if you can create a new mold where the head has an upslant at say a 45 or less, that may keep er up on a straight retreive

Goodluck!

Interest here is about 5%, or so. Just kidding. Have you caught any muskies on the new bait yet? Looks pretty good.
