Location: Belgium | I remember reading that tom fudally made the 10" and 12" reef hawgs for trolling. I have tried it with my 8" ones but they wobble for a while and then they blow out of the water (even at slow speeds). The V-cut mouth is made correctly and the hooks are all aligned. Should I weight the bait so it stays upright in the water? Add jerks while trolling? |

| if you give the 8 incher fast jerks itll stay sub-surface, but it doesnt troll as well as the 10 or 12. both are tremendous trolling baits. i put a skrew-in-weight in the belly of both the 10 and 12 to help them keep from rolling over at high speeds. great baits. the 12 swings amazingly wide when pumped and given room to glide. the 10 is more erratic than the 12, it's like an 8 incher that won't roll.

Location: Angola, IN | I've only trolled a reef hawg a few times, but did nail a low 40" fish last year on one. I was trolling the 8" w/o a weight. I have a thick coat of Envirotex on mine, so that helped it stay down. They really swing back and forth. Great trolling bait if you ask me. |

Location: Angola, IN | Epoxy (which is what Envirotex is) is more dense than wood. So, it increases the overall density of the lure. Adding lead to the lure does the same thing. And for sure, adding lead to the bottom of the lure is the most effective way of preventing the lure from rolling and blowing out. |

| anywhere from super slow to super fast.
i don't think i could make my 12 inchers roll much. they track side to side pretty well. i'd say i can get them 7+ MPH with the right belly weight and line length. the 10 incher is a little slower. the 12 really does troll awesome with a 1/2 to 1 ounce belly weight.

| my 10's and 12's float. i havent tried to get one to suspend yet. when they're used for a while they suspend. it doesnt matter as much when they're trolled, because they don't pause much (sometimes though). i put 7/0 mustads on my 12 incher with a 1/2 oz belly weight and it runs really nice, doesnt "bob" up very fast, it hangs for a long time but will slowly float out of trouble when i need them too. it helps to have ones that dont suspend while trolling, unless you know the places you troll extremly well, because i run into all sorts of suprises i like my hawgs to be able to get over without fouling (like weeds, wood, rocks, thick baitfish...etc)
