Posts: 5874 | Just got of the phone with Gregger. 40 MPH all the way to Okoboji in the storm last night! Got there at 2:00 AM. Trolled in 30 MPH winds today, and came up empty. Water temps in the bay by the launch were 32. Out in the bay was 34. Hope it doesn't freeze up on them overnight. Shady was in the background giving me the moon, so it sounds like a night at the local establishments is inevitable! I forgot. What does a hangover feel like in the cold?

Posts: 136 | It feels really good. So darn cold the hurt goes away!! Today was even worse... Waves so bad that we took one over the bow of Greg's Ranger... Made for a skating rink... Couldn't cast 35 mph winds stopped everything... trolled for 2 1/2 till the one came over the bow... We kinda looked at each other and said... We're out!!! Locals thought we were crazy. No other boats were seen. Great looking lake. Might have to try it again. Locals are very nice at the drinking establishments.

Posts: 1189 Location: Bagley,MN 56621 | Yes, "OUT" was the word. Brutal conditions, 40 MPH all the way down in 4 wheel drive. Woke to 25 MPH south winds and 29 degrees outside. casted for about 30 minutes on friday, then trolled for about 4 hours with the only "unfrozen" rods we had. Sat woke to warmer temps (32 degrees), but much stroner winds.....30+ with some dang nasty gusts out of the north. After deciding that enough was enough, I jumped on the "rude" and got us up on top of the rollers and caps. It wasnt until I slowed down to catch my bouncing TM pedal that one came over the bow. Told Cady to sit back down and hang on to yer arse, we gotta get back on plane again. I think we had one too many captain's at "Captains" on fri nite, locals are very nice indeed.

Posts: 114 Location: Eagle Grove, Iowa | Greg& Steve , Got to give you guys credit you are hardcore to be out there the last few days i can only imagine the conditions you faced. I think Al Linder named west okoboji best back in the 70's simply calling it "the beast". Hope you can make it back there again under better conditions because there are some real big pigges in them waters. happy holidays, tracy

Posts: 1189 Location: Bagley,MN 56621 | Tracy, yes the lake does look good. Think it will definately get another visit to chase some Iowa hogs!! Does the wind ever stop in Iowa???, sheesh, this is my second trip there(to Iowa, not this lake in particular) and it's always blowin like a banchee. saw a piece of Lit. in the area that claimed Iowa as the 10th windiest state. I think they miscalculated......gotta be in the top 2 for windiest, AT LEAST!!!

Posts: 148 Location: DES MOINES, IOWA | Greg, W. Okoboji can be one of the meanest lakes to fish, because of the winds, that I,ve ever been on, but has huge Muskies.Use to fish it in May before lake fills up with boaters.Let,s get a group together for May,and we should do real well.If your interested, I am planning on fishing Northern Missouri for Muskies on a lake that was hot in the fall, but I didn,t get a chance to fish.Tentatively, going to fish that in April sometime.I,ll keep you advised.

Posts: 1189 Location: Bagley,MN 56621 | Jay, Steve and I were discussing that same thing, going back down to Boji land in mid May (pretty sure that is the opener)before our N.Wis and Minn season begin.......however, that month is quite hectic for me....will have to see how it goes. N.Mo is definately an option between X-mas and New years.
