This is a new one-off muskie bait that I just finished a few days ago. It's an 8" red cedar, wire thru build. I'm real happy with the action of it for being a one time design and build.

RJ_692 - 7/21/2020 8:15 AM how did you do the through wire? I first slot my planks with a table saw and cut wood strips that fit snug in the slot and tight against the wire. Once the blanks are sealed these get epoxied into place. Hopefully the pics can explain it better than I can. crazywaynee - 7/22/2020 12:33 PM I have trouble with my lip slot everything looks straight but it always looks a little off on a slight angle when looking at it from the front view it seems that I have to file it a little after cutting, do you have this problem I am making a 14" trolling lure. Just wondering if this is a problem that I just have to put up with, its not that bad but it just bugs me. By the way your lure will look great when it is all painted and ready to get sucked up by a 36" eye. Wayne First of all, I appreciate the interest and kind words! Regarding the lip slots, it is probably the most crucial part in building a crankbait to make a true 90 degree cut to the centerline of any given blank. The slightest bit off will usually result in a bait that blows out and tumbles at trolling speed. There are different methods to achieve a true cut and too much to explain quickly. I make my own table saw jigs that hold the blanks in proper alignment for cutting centerlines and lip slots before any shaping is done. the bait in this original post has a 45 degree angled lip which is easy to dial in on my table saw.
