I've been buying a few used baby shallow raiders up this spring and I notice they all float differently. Is this just a bait-to-bait thing or is it a "pre-ROI" vs. current production thing?
I received one with a painted lip that is super buoyant and then the newer ones appear to sit quite a bit lower and nose down quite a bit more. Checked them for leaks a few times and I don't see any evidence of it.

I've noticed the same thing and have come to believe it's a "pre ROI" thing. Would be interested if others have a different opinion.

I've had several issues with shallow raiders taking on water, crappy paint, or not running right. I don't buy them anymore even though I've caught fish on them.

That's why I bought some used ones. If I'm going to have to fix them I might as well save money for Shoe Goo or Marine Goo or whatever to patch them up. Was really disappointed in the body fitting on some new baby DRs I got in new colors this spring.

same here. I have found much more reliable baits. I have had baby shallow raiders that wouldn't swim right out of the package, and two brand new 2019 depth raider regular size with the line tie 45% to the lip. I've purchased my last new Bucher bait.

some of it may be pre-roi, but take a close look at the hooks. older raiders had bronze long shank trebles that are heavier than the newer out of the box short shank black nickels. i have a bunch of baby raiders and mod the hooks with different sizes to alter the weight for different bouyancy. bucher has a ton of info and videos on doing just that.

ive had paint chip off on the newer baits while older ones have hook rash so bad its cutting into the plastic and the rest of the paint is mint minus the teeth marks. they are my favorite baits, so i dont let that bother me

I weighed some hooks for customizing my 6-inch Flatsticks. I should do the same for these.

I heard an interview with Joe that they have cleaned up the dies they use but I haven't seen it translate to the shelves yet...

I think there is better, more versatile small cranks out there.

The New this year,  5 inch Minnow style slammer is perfect for the spring bite. Casted or trolled. These 2 baits ( quite scored with teeth marks) accounted for about 40 fish the past 2 weeks, in the 4 Game Fish groups were familiar with. What's quite nice about these also is they have a WALK  to them, even at reduced speeds.

Funny you mentioned these. I had already ordered one of these in $9 perch. Excited to see it work!

X3 on the Slammers. The New 5" is a killer bait. Really like his 7" also.

Does the new 5" slammer have a good 'rip' feel when cast, similar to a crane, or are they more of a swimming type lure with the fatter wider lip design. I just ordered one for trolling, but look forward to giving it a rip..

Jason; yes, would define it more of a swimming action, on the 5” minnow. I know many who like ripping the 8” er, square lip model Slammer!
