I just bought a used clamp on down rigger odd Ebay that I intend to use on one of our Canada trips. The lake chain we will be on in June has an adjoining Lake Trout lake and I thought it might be worth a 1/2 day to take the wife LT Trolling.

That being said: anybody have any thoughts regarding down riggers and muskies.

I would think the key points would be bait selection and lure distance for the ball

Might be an interesting option for trolling reef edges during cisco spawn

I use a pair of Cannon Easi-Trolls on my boat for both salmon/trout on Lake Michigan as well as for muskie trolling. I've caught a good number of muskies on the riggers. I go about 15-20' behind the ball and with the heavier Cannon clips I can run 8" believers, and depthraider sized cranks. Really need to see if I can keep a big jake/slammer/grandma on one....

Put a double ten just a couple feet behind the ball and you will be able to see follows on your fish finder. Its entertaining.

I've been toying with the idea for a long time. specifically slow dragging suckers over reefs on ultra clear lakes.

i have a dvd ; the video trolling system by "in fisherman" about the "Trainwreck spinnerbait trolling system" and very interesting and fun to watch . he uses a downrigger with a camera attatched to see the strikes and misses .

I routinely fish suckers 20-25 feet deep and sometimes deeper. I do not use a down rigger. I just use enough lead (on the line) to get the sucker down .

Good for lakes with lots of floating weeds. The dr cable will catch them before they get your line
