Anyone have secrets as how to get this so-call "death wobble"? Beaver, haven't you said something about rounding the back?

Thanks,
MJB

I can get any unweighted Suick to wobble as it rises by tuning the tail. SInce each tunes differently, there is no standard method. I found the lure has to dive with the nose tipped to the side to get it to begin rising like that. I assume the wobble you speak of is as the bait rises after the 'pull' and stop. I have two baby Suicks that will dive three feet or more with two pulls, a short, then a bit longer. ALL the fish I caught on that lure this year and last hit it on the rise. I have gone through three sets of hooks on one of the baits, and two on the other. I switch the hooks to the next size up as soon as the factory set gets beat up, and use the round bends.

Mike, do you have a better hook-up percentage with one hook removed?

I have not been able to get weighted Suicks to do the wobble, but that hasn't seemed to matter to the muskies.

The Suick has been my best bait this year.

I take the back hook off and run a small rubber band through the hook holder and place it around the middle treble hook.

First thing you do is lay the middle treble hook back against the Suick and put the one end of the rubber band one one side of the hook and use the other end of the rubber band and place it on the other side of the hook.

This with keep the hook tight against the Suick. Bend the treble against the Suick, the two points that lay against the Suick out a bit so they stick out a bit.

This will let the Suick to swing from side to side, death wobble. Slack in the line will make it change sides or wobble.

Take the back metal lip and bend it uneven so it will track to one side or the other. This will give it side to side action as well. This needs to be adjusted to the drift you are doing. Bend it one way or the other, it makes a difference.

Good luck, its a great trick that makes the bait even better.

Mike, do you replace the rear treble? Any chance you could show a picture of your mod? Thanks for the help.

It doesn't sound like he does. I personally take out the front 2 trebles, and drill 1 hole in the middle of where they were. I then weight the 2 holes where the 2 hooks started, then put 1 hook in the newly drilled hole. I think 2 hooks are better then three. You don't have as many to worry about hooking the fish's face more, or your hands. Then as Mike said slap that tail on an angle.

MJ,

Suicks are one of my favorites, and even won myself a tournament (98') throwing it. To get the wobble (and this takes a lot of practice, believe me) I simply give the bait about 4-5 quick, short, pulls. I am talking about only moving the rod tip about 3-5". It makes the Suick flash, and it wobbles side to side as it slowly moves forward. However, and here comes the "BUT" part, I have never had a fish hit it while doing that. 99% of all my strikes have come just before, or right after I have given it the std. pull.

I learned of the rubber band trick from Dave Dorazio several years ago. I passed it on to the Extreme One last year, and he caught a nice 43 on it that very night on Pewaukee!

A couple things to help. Make sure the cotter keys on the bottom are aligned. This will help the bait run true. You may also have to turn or bend the eye if it is always running to one side. Once it is tuned, you can get the bait to do a lot of cool stuff, even getting it to act like a chopping glide bait! I have found that the new Side Thrillers are a little tougher to tune. Possibly that big eyebal throws it off a little?

Great tips. My one that death wobble must be because I happened to tune it right. Man, you should see that thing on the rise. I'm going to try some of these tricks with my unweighted suicks. Thanks again for the tricks.

I have a custom painted one that I can't get to run too well. The eyelet in the nose is a little off center. I've bent the tail a ton trying to compensate but it hasn't helped much unless you pull hard. Am I better off taking it out and redrilling the hole or bending the hanger? Right now it pulls left (as I am bringing it in) so bad it blows out quite a bit. I don't know if it's just me but most of the suicks I've bought lately have been impossible to tune do to things like this. I could also be an idiot, only the bait knows for sure

What do I do????????

Treats

The one Suick in my box (have probably 10) that has been wailed on the most has the same characteristics you describe. Can't get it to run right no matter the adjustments. It blows out to one side every twitch. I hate the way it looks in the water. However, the fish can't seem to get enough of it. It has resulted in way more strikes than any other. By the way, it's all black.

Also, my experience in changing the hooks around is this: if the back hook isn't clanging against the metal tail, the bait doesn't seem to produce nearly as well. Hook noise seems to be a key to these things.

Still can't see why fish hit them.
