Location: Athens, Ohio | I got the transducer bracket for my HDS unit and my Structurescan module. The directions say, for aluminum boats, to put a piece of marine grade starboard between the hull and the stainless steel bracket to prevent corrosion. I can't find starboard locally, Lowes had a 1x4 piece of PVC trim that looks like it may work? I'm guessing the pvc won't rot, any drawbacks to using it? thanks, m |

Location: Hayward, WI | That should work fine. They make transducer boards out of something similar, maybe UHMW that does the same thing. I don't see why the pvc wouldn't work I'd squirt some silicone in around the screw holes to keep water out of the transom and go for it.
I think many use 3m 5200, which is kind of a glue/silicone. |

Location: Athens, Ohio | Thanks. I was going to use self tapping screws to put the board on, I'll drill pilot holes first and goop them up.
Do you think the screws holding the brackets need to go all the way in to the transom? I'm hoping to keep them just in the 3/4" pvc. m |

I glued that to the transom with what Curley recommended. Did not have to put any screws in the aluminium. |

Location: Northern Illinois | Use the glue with the screws as well. No need to penetrate the transom. Read the instructions on the 5200 - 7 days cure time. |

| If there is still a restaurant open around you ask the owner if he has a old cutting board he wants to get rid of. Just cut a piece of that to your liking. Most of those are 1/2" to 1" thick.

Location: Athens, Ohio | My first thought was to substitute a piece of 3/4" pressure treated plywood but I wanted it to last more than a few years (even tho the boat spends more garage-and-trailer time than water time).
