Just returned from my annual mental health experience on Eagle. Conditions were variable all week, with rain most days - interrupted by bright sun. I saw fewer fish than most years, but the quality was better. There is a strong 40-43" year class. Boated 3, lost the big one, and can't wait to return.

Eagle has a habit of humbling me, and this year was no exception. Every time I had them figured out, something changed. Some rocks held fish. Some didn't. Some weeds held fish. Some didn't. Wind on a spot seemed a key - I never saw a fish in flat water. Small (double 8's) bucktails drew the most action, but a double 9 Gerry's Girl in black/smoke may be on my line for quite a while up there.

My bass boat proved a good choice (I traded my 620); much easier to figure 8 and much easier to manage netting a fish solo. My fuel consumption dropped dramatically, which I largely attribute to 15 years newer technology. So far happy with that choice.

Spent some time smallmouth fishing. The brown bass there are fat as can be. Best results were soft plastics (with red flakes - Rusties?) on drops with basketball sized boulders. Definitely an under fished species there.

Headed up next Saturday for a week. Haven't really musky fished much the last 5 years so there will definitely be some walleye and smallmouth fishing mixed in for breaks.

Was up there Labor day weekend for 4 days, everything they told us was, they are deep because of the cold and the water temp 62 degrees, everything we caught was in
3 ft of water, largest was 45", caught 4, lost 4 more, all the losses where on glides or softtails, all the catches where on bucktails, one was on a top raider.
