Posts: 3504 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hi everyone, Seeing the threads on sabaskong and the Angle made me wonder a bit about other waters up in that neck of the woods that are also decent fisheries... Please respond to the following...which lakes/systems outside of Lake of the woods would be... 1. Best lakes/systems for quantity of fish, not necessarily size? 2. Best lakes/systems for Quality of fishing of both (size and some quantity)? 3. Best Lakes/systems for Trophy Size (quantity low, quality size)? Somewhat open to interpretation/experience but do tell if you'd like... Steve

Location: Contrarian Island | some buddies and I chat about other lakes every year. by no means am I remotely an expert on any or most. done a few trips to Seul and one 9 day trip to Eagle my take: Lac Seul: fish are built like tanks for the most part. 2 very good fishermen hitting it the right week, 2 per day avg is a good week. less quantity, more size will fish way smaller than lotw if you run a lot on lotw... Eagle: fish are for the most part built the same as lotw, in central part of lake, west arm fish are heavier. upper end on both lakes I think is comparable. Less fish on eagle, 2 very good fishermen could crank out 15 to 20 in a week. The unknowns for me are places like Dryberry, Long Legged/Stork, Minaki..no desire to ever fish Wabigoon. know guy that have done all 3.. all 3 seem to be less fish, maybe less presure to go with it.. pro's and con's to any of the lakes in Ontario. Posts: 1767 Location: Lake Country, Wisconsin | 1) Indian Chain/Canyon 2) Eagle ![]() 3) I would go to Lac Seul if I was hunting giants and know I’m most likely coming home with just a few fish. Then of course Rowan, but that’s an expensive roll of the dice to fish out of a tin boat all week...Wabisewer has some giants too Edited by Musky Brian 8/15/2019 3:05 PM

Posts: 272 | Howdy, Are there any lakes up there that haven't had to deal with rusties and their impact on weeds? Habitat degradation is certainly impacting LOTW and changing fish behavior. Take care, Ruddiger

Pretty hush hush lake. You likely won’t be finding much info on it.

Posts: 32 | My boat netted 7 on Eagle back in 2017, and 4 last week on Lac Seul (50, 44, 42, 37.5). Next up for me, the trifecta - a LOTW muskie. FYI - all trips include about 50% of the time walleye fishing, so our numbers are lower due to time committed to casting for muskie!

Posts: 20248 Location: oswego, il | Bucher until he started filming on lotw was filming his Canadian musky segments on wabiclay. Figure that one out! Edited by ToddM 8/22/2019 8:18 AM

Posts: 93 | Where is Wabisewer? Never heard of it and kind find anything on it. It's right in between Nunyer and Bidnuss Lakes. I'd like to try Lac Suel, but it's hard to commit to the whole prospect of "shot at a giant" but also "shot at a strike out." Maybe a walleye fishing trip with casting for muskies when conditions seem best?

Posts: 32923 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Try Wabigoon, stay at Merkels. Really good walleye, bass and big pike fishing in numbers and quality. Muskies across the system, numbers and quality are there. World class crappies, too. Eagle, of course. Bucket list trip there? A week with the guides during the Fall Muskie Hunt with a day of giant smallmouth and big numbers of quality walleyes in there somewhere.

The biggest problem with Lac Seul is the lack of options and overall cost of staying where you really want to stay location wise
