I am looking to buy a new reel and have not bought one for probably 5 years so I am a little outdated. I am thinking of purchasing the Tranx 400. I currently have a Calcutta 400b and a Revo Toro NACL 60. Would you consider adding this to my arsenal and what applications would you use it for? I am also looking into the Daiwa Lexa 400 8:1 ratio reel. Which gear ratio would you purchase? Also open to other reel recommendations.

I love my 400B's. They treated me well. Still have a few. I got a Tranx 400 HS this year and I absolutely love it. Had to retrain myself to reel a little slower, but it is a great reel. Topwater, cranks, blades. You still have to work pretty good to burn 10's, it isn't as easy as a 500PG. But still, great reel.
I also have a Beast HS that I use. That's also a great reel and the gear ratio isn't quite as fast as a Tranx. It is a lot more "normal" with how I fish. I like that one too and it pulls 10's better than the Tranx 400HG, in my opinion.
My advice...post what you like to throw, what stick you are going to put it on and guys will have some great opinions for yah to read.

I will be pairing it with a 8' XH bulldawg series rod. I throw a lot of 9's and 10's, glidebaits and topwaters

Tranx 400hg is the nicest reel I've used.

I was really nervous when I switched to low profiles. Went from a few 400Bs and Calcutta TEs to Tranx 400s and I would say overall no regrets

They are both badas reels. I own the 400 in both gears and the 300hg. If you wanting to throw 10s a lot a would go with the lower gears. 10s pull really hard on the HG you can burn them but lots of work. I put power handle of the low gear 400 and its nice for blades and can still move them pretty fast
