15 glorious days off at the end of October. Soccer season over. Wife not working. Should be an open road to lots of fishing time before unpredictable winter season.

Day one, cold front, rest up, wife sickly, run kids around half the day and get my stuff sorted down to one bag of baits, ice for the cooler, sandwich meat and everything looks go for early am departure.

Day two, make sandwiches, throw the dog out of the garage, rods and bag and cooler loaded in the truck. Open garage door, pull boat out to trailer hitch. Drop it on the ball, raise the jack and hitch it up. Go back to raise the motor up, preparatory to putting on the transom saver and heading out. Click. Click. Click. Ohhhhh crap, try the switch the other way, zzzzz, lose half my distance to the cement. Click. Click.

It is still early, maybe I can get it fixed quick and bail before noon.
Go down to local boat dealer, who has been pretty good with service for my various busted things and prior boat. Talk to the parts guy who is pretty smart on most stuff. "It's probably the relay he says" Easy to fix? "Yeah, just unscrew a screw and plug it in." How much? "$12 and change."
Ok, thats not so bad I will run it over to the service department and see if I can waylay somebody early as they come in. Get the first guy and he listens to it and say's "Thats the relay alright" Usually you need to replace both relays though" I can live with that, let's get it fixed. So he starts taking shields off and finds where it usually is and says "Oh, I don't know about this one, I don't think that's the right part for this, did Bob look it up?" serviceman number 2 now shows up and writes down the part number, takes it over to Bob and comes back with the information that they don't have the part in stock(motor is a 2002 4 stroke 115 hp) and that the motor is Yammy from the lower unit up. Now I am starting to get a clue, I ask about price and availability, well this Jap relay costs $200 and we will have to order it unless some dealer nearbye has one. Ok, I am starting to feel the friction now, it is completely dry!!!! If you can find one, I will go pick it up and any other parts you need at the same time. He goes back to his desk, returns in about 15 minutes to give me the news that no one in 100 miles has one and it will be Monday to get one.
Seems like they could do better on a simple part on a new motor.

Anybody want a sandwich?
