Posts: 770 | what have you guys experienced for flaptail hooking percentages and which flap are you using. i have been considering picking one up but the back hooks always make me feel like the fish is going to grab the bait and miss the hook. thanks T3

Posts: 2308 Location: SE, WI. | For me; If the Muskie blows up underneath, you get them with body hooks. If the Muskie nips at the blade, which many do, if flappers doesn’t have the trailer, disappointment will set in... Had too many disappointments without a trailer....never will Fish one again without trailer hook. JD

Posts: 770 | I was assuming there were trailers on all of them, either single ones like yours JD or doubles like lee lures or TR customs, i just feel like the trailers are either too low or too far off to the side.

Posts: 32926 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Hadn't been, I drilled out a very early flaptail and placed the first stinger in one of those I am aware of back when Moses was parting the waters. Might have been one of the first Snodlows. Snoddy thought i was nuts. I catch about 40% of the muskies that hit that lure on the stinger. I used a much smaller XH treble on mine so if the fish looked at it it was hooked. Just played them carefully and they ended up in the net. I still have the original hand built I made in the early 80's, the stinger hook and wire in that bait is probably 33 or 34 years old. Still catches fish.

Posts: 35 | JD knows what he's talking about when it comes to flaptails. Here's a picture of a fish my daughter caught last summer on one of his flaptails. Just shy of 50" as I recall. Attachments ---------------- ![]()
