Location: Plover, WI | I'm in need of some help regarding propping my engine. I currently have a 2012 Mercury 60 EFI Fourstroke. A look at the prop has numbers stamped in it. 73134A45. A search has it listed as a Mercury Black Max 10 5/8" x 12. It has 3 blades. I have a sticker on the motors lower unit that says 12x22 1.83:1. Not sure what that means.
Boat is Crestliner 1650 Pro Tiller
WOT rpm is 6300
Top speed (1 person w/gear) 34
What I want is faster holeshot. Im struggling to get on plane with 2-3 people and gear. I also pull a tube with my 2 girls in it and struggled to get on plane. The tube pulling is really only for 1-2 weeks out of the season, but is the bigger reason.
The questions are what are my options to attain the better holeshot/acceleration?
I'm at a loss as if my prop is a 12 pitch, I can't really go lower. Would a 4 blade help? SS for less flex? Any and all suggestions welcomed.
Thanks

Yes, sort of. I ended up going with a 4 blade prop. Same pitch. Stayed with aluminum because stainless wouldn't make that much difference with a 60hp.
Hole shot was faster so end result was what I wanted. I hardly lost top speed also. Less than 1 mph. |

| Good to know.
I recently acquired a 1650 Pro Tiller with a 75 Merc Four Stroke. The prop is a Spitfire 12.4 x 15, 4 blade which appears to be a Crestliner recommended prop. I have gone to the Merc Prop Selector site and I keep coming up with a 19 pitch Spitfire. Have not had the boat in the water yet but I am thinking with the 2:33 gear I should be good with the 15. But I am new to this gear/prop stuff. We will see.
Thank you. |
