| Which knots do you use for connecting braided line to the leader? | |||

Posts: 7106 Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | I can never remember the name of this knot but here's how I tie....learned it at a kids birthday party (at a fishing school no less) about 20 years ago, not a single failure yet I can remember: 1. thread about 5 inches of line through the swivel loop 2. loop that tag line around the longer length of line between 7-10 times. 3. bring the end of the tag line through the loop your just created. 4. now take the remainder of the tag line through the new (second) loop you just created. 5. pull tight. Hope you can visualize this, would show you in pics, but the digi-cam and I are locked in a struggle right now about it working, and right now its winning.

| Palomar and super glue the tag. | |||

Posts: 1137 Location: Holly, MI | I have used the regular clinch knot with a twist.. I double the line about a foot or two first so the entire knot is tied with two layers of power-pro. It leaves a double tag but the Muskies don't seem to mind it. The two layers of line help bite into eachother and the double around the swivle adds strength and abrasion resistance. Never had them fail yet. (just another way to skin a cat I guess)

Posts: 32954 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Berkely Trilene knot. Strong, won't slip, and easy to tie with small diameter line and cold hands.
Thread line through the leader swivel. Thread it through again same way, making a loop around your thumb. Wrap line around like a clinch knot, run it through the loop, pull it tight.

Posts: 379 Location: Thief River Falls MN | In my unscientific tests the Palomar and Trilene Knot both broke at 56# with 80# Spectron when tied to a Bucher split ring. I like them both but usually use the 4 wrap Trilene knot, easier to tie in my opinion. later, toddb

| Did you ever heard of the Bimini-Twist? Somebody told me it would be the best knot for braided lines! | |||
| |||
| I tie a double Palomar knot. It is the same as a normal Palomar knot, you just double the line through the eye. It is the easiest and strongest knot to tie. http://www.fish4fun.com/palomarknot.htm | |||

| What do you mean with "double the line through the eye"? And does the palomar knot holds 100% ? Perhaps the palomar knot is the best knot for 80lbs or 100lbs line, but is it also your first choise for braided line between 10-20lbs? | |||
| |||
| I mean that I fold the line over again before passing it through the eye, so instead of 2 strands there are 4 strands of line. I use this knot for everything. If you are using a smaller diameter superbraid, I would just tie the single palomar knot.... | |||

| So what do you think of the Bimini-Twist? I can not believe that the palomar will not slip with braided line. Perhaps it only holds 70-80%, but I would like to have a knot which holds almost 100%! | |||

Posts: 131 Location: Kalamazoo, MI | I used the improved clinch for years and years with no problems at all. This year Ive been using the uni knot. I find the uni knot slightly easier to tie, and its suppose to be less likely to slip than the improved clinch knot. Palomar Knot Improved Clinch Knot Uni Knot

| I think that all these knots will slip with thin braided lines (10-20 pounds). Does really nobody tie the Bimini-Twist? | |||

Posts: 1189 Location: Bagley,MN 56621 | The Bucher Power Knot will not slip. I was taught this knot at one of the MuskyHunter Schools. Saric was saying he would tie that knot at fishing shows when a mono company had a machine there to test knot strength.....they were amazed at how strong it was, even for small mono.

| OK, the Bucher knot is good for mono, but is it also yor first choice for braided in small diameter? | |||

Posts: 294 Location: Suspended | I use the palomar knot on 30# Tuff line which has an 8# diameter on a couple spinning outfits and it has not failed. No slip trolling 8" depthraiders and 10" Jakes up to 5 mph, good knot. (I've had the trilene slip, good thing Jakes float!)

Posts: 131 Location: Kalamazoo, MI | I dont really mess with the small diameter braids. We run 30lb on the salmon rigs for trolling, but when it comes to musky, its 65 or higher. I cant stand the way the lighter diameters cut into themselves. Makes for more messes than its worth to me. And since the lightest musky lure I toss in any given situation is at least 1/2oz, I dont really find myself needing a real low diameter line. Every now and then ill string up some 30lb braid for bass fishing, and I stick with the uni or improved clinch. Ive never in 20 years had a knot pull out. Ive broke off at the knot on a few hooksets, but never had one slip. If I ever start running into slippage problems with the knots, maybe ill try to figure out the more complicated knots, but until then, ill stick with a knot I can tie in less than 10 seconds in a heavy wind under a dark sky.

Posts: 1335 Location: Chicago, Beverly | Palomar..palomar..palomar...It took years to convince my brothers to use the knot but magically after starting their break offs either slowed or stopped altogether. I have never had one fail yet since I started using it in 1988.
