What y'all using for boards and misc items to go with? Looking to do a bit more trolling this season and have never used boards but would like to try.

church tackle walleye board or off shore side planers both in standard size work well. no need for the super sized boards unless you plan on pulling giant lures as they are a pain to reel in - also make sure to upgrade the attaching clip off shore's I think is called or-18 and church tackle is called a lock jaw

Off Shore Pro Mag SST works great off the shelf - mono or braid, with any lure size I've tried. Most other options require modification for braid or don't work well with big lures.

TX-44's with the upgraded clip if you want to troll anything larger than super shads.

I use the church boardst(x-44 and walleye) with the offshore latch locking clip. I don't care for the church locking clip it's a pita imho. Upgrade the plastic pins with the metal ones, they will eventually break.

One of the keyes to a good planer board is it's ease of putting on and more important, taking off. You don't want to spend more than a second or two taking a board off while fighting a fish, slack isn't your friend and the longer it takes, the more fish you will lose. My setup takes the least amount of time.

Off shore upgraded to the or-18 clips for anything up to a 10" Jake.
For big baits the off shore pro mags. They come with the or-18 clip out of the box.

Bingo. No upgrades needed and no pins to wear through your line. If you pull big baits they're the only way to go.

Just so I have this correct, the Off Shore Pro Mag SST will work right out of the package for pulling a Headlock with say 6'-15" behind the board at say 4MPH?

For sure. I'm a big headlock/mattock and just big bait period guy, and these are what u want. I was never real stoked on my TX 44s, especially with headlocks and the like, and after spending a couple hours in a friends boat wit SST's, I ordered some for myself right from the boat. Couldn't be happier, and no mods required.

FWIW, I've tried the following on the Pro Mag SSTs (to ~5mph) without issue:

- 12" Mattlock
- 13" Believer
- 10" Hooker
- double 12 bucktail (8 oz keel weight)

Not a problem. Throw a Liplock on and drag it as fast as you want.

Having zero experience with boards, I have what is probably a dumb follow up question. Would the Off Shore Pro Mag SST affect smaller lures in a negative way? I troll small shad 4 to 5 inch baits locally, but will pull larger stuff periodically on trips. I'd prefer one style of boards. Thanks for the help on this subject

The mags won't affect your baits any different. They do pull a lot harder. I use the regular boards for smaller baits for the ease of bringing back in and the fact you can tell easier if your bait has picked up debris.

I can't think of any reason not to run the Mags for muskies, even with small lures. Except you might hook a walleye and not even realize it.

I run the tx44 for long lead core and copper, you have to watch the big boards.
