Posts: 2361 | I cannot vouch for any of the characters in this story, however as it came to me I believe it is probably mostly true and probably verifiable. Covers the good the bad and the funny of KY musky fishing. "Hey, I gotta buddy who caught a real big one up on Cave Run a while back, he was showin me the pictures." (my source) "How big was it? Was that the one that was close to the state record you were telling me about?" me "Yeah, he had some pictures." "Oh? Did he keep it I suppose?" "Yeah, him and his buddies bass fish and they keep every legal one they catch and eat them."(the bad part of KY musky fishing) "He says to come on up there and he will guarantee me a musky, says they are all over the lake and easy to catch."(at this point I realized we had reached into a fictional realm of musky fishing) "He said when they took it into a store to get pictures, that a guide was there and pulled him over to the side and started asking him if he caught the fish at such and such a place, and if he was casting toward thus and such when it hit? My buddy was amazed, because he knew exactly where he had caught it. The guide then told him that the big ones are territorial, and stay in the same area and he knew where it was, because he had had the fish on 3 times in the prior three weeks! Is that true that they are territorial?" "Yeah sometimes they stay in one area, even at times on one tree or weedbed."(my reply) "Boy, that guide must not be much of a fisherman if he lost him 3 times in 3 weeks!" When he said this I cracked up because of the way he said it, and the expression on his face as he shook his head, evidently condemning the guide for incompetence... I am going to go out on a limb and speculate wildly that there is at least one Cave Run guide that can verify at least some of this story, anybody want to fess up??? (And did you really have it on and lose it THREE times???)

Posts: 32956 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | It always amuses me when the Bass guys proclaim how easy it is to catch muskies. Fact is, they are fishing for Bass, catch a muskie accidentally, and proclaim it 'simple'. Muskie guys do the same with really big Bass. I KNOW!! Let's all tell the Bass guys we are going to kill and eat all the 5# plus Bass we catch (it is SO easy to catch a big bass) but won't if they trade a Muskie for a Bass...

Posts: 20278 Location: oswego, il | Hey as long as the line don't break, it's hard for a musky to shake a little lure stuck at the base of it's gill rakers.

Location: Athens, Ohio | Gee, Steve, we could even offer money for every dead bass brought in for dinner like that Frenchburg tackle shop was doing for the muskies; I think the bass eat the muskie fry and are killing our sport! sorry, too early in the morning. m
