Just curious. Where do the lure builders come up with these lure names? I understand you have to name them something but some are pretty funny and don't know how they can be related to Muskie fishing.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all and a safe and prosperous New Year.

"chunk of wood with hooks" wouldn't sell nearly as well...

Mine.... the Cover6....
I’ve heard some people say they thought it was called that because of how far they track left n right of center,
however... my initial reasoning for calling it the Cover6 was more along the lines of the military term of “covering your six” aka “Your Back”
.... so u can rest assure
.....when you need a fish
The Cover6.... Always Has Your Back

Face it, Fat Bastard hit it out of the park! Is it basically just a overeaten Top Raider and no better of a bait? I’d say yeah! But the lines to buy them, many of those in line the maligned internet resellers, the die was now cast. I’m thinking the name was everything. It’s just smart demographic selling, this crowd hears fat bastard and thinks, “They’re talking to me!” IMHO, the only real advantage to the bait is having less available cash to spend on double-cheeseburgers!

Then they could stop making them for a year and watch the stampede to their booth at the following years show! Best way to make a musky fisherman want something is to take it away from them. Easier to catch than Muskies.

So true. Take the Shadillac for example. When the originals were made and in such limited quantity, once in a while you'd see one resold for high $. Since Chaos starting making them and the supply is up I haven't even heard the bait mentioned.

I would buy a bait named "chunk of wood with hooks" .
Simple, honest and probably would work well.

I do a couple of different paddle tail softbaits, and other soft plastics, and i never really given them any names, My buddy however, named one of them the mojoshad, as it just seemed to out produce a lot of all the other stuff we used to throw on a couple of lakes, including other paddle tail swimbaits.
Always found it wierd/hard to try and find good names for this kind of stuff, also just figuring out a name for the baits i produce as general, is a pia.

My favourite spinnerbait is a Rob Dey which I named Joe after my friend Joe. I named it Joe because Joe don't got much hair left either. Neither have quit catching fish.

I was talking with the late Todd Cleveland years ago and asked him how he came up with the name, Phantom Lure. He said that his favorite airplane was the F4 Phantom fighter/bomber so he named the lure after it.

Why does it have to say BL special on the packaging? C'mon spell it out!:-)
Stink pickle. In what situation does that happen?
The Patriot color by zalt was shortened to that because they didn't use the full name I gave it.

There are two baits named shadillac. The first one is made by a West Virginia bait company called big chimney baits. He makes some of my favorite crank baits. It garnered some popularity about 17 years ago. It's nothing like the chaos shadillac however.

I don't know anything about the Big Chimney Shadillac however I do have a Big Chimney WTD topwater. Anyways, I was referring to the now Chaos Shadillac that originally I believe was a collaboration between Nate Bettencourt and Mike Hulbert around 2010 time frame. If that rings a bell?

Martin I have several of the Nate made shadillacs and a big chinmey as well. They are certainly similar in name only.

Wellll, I talked Papa Joe out of his CadyWeagle my last trip up there and popped a real nice 39.5 incher on it last September. I think I still have a FIT, too, maybe need to get that back off the wall. m

PS - anyone know the real origin of the name 'Muskie Treats'? I've had more fish snack on one of those than any other brand in my box.
