| Picked up some rattle chambers yesterday....going to slice open some bright colored dawgs and insert some chambers. Then use the hand torch (nice tool for dawg surgery, bought it at Williams-Sonoma, really a Carmelizer) and seal up the incision. Slamr | |||

| To get rid of rattles: 1. drill a small hole and fill the bait with epoxy or LOW EXPANDING foam. To add rattles: 1. drill a small hole and add brass bb's, lead shot, etc. 2. add rattle tubes that you can buy from tackle supply houses To add rattles in wooden baits: 1. Let me know when you figure out a good way! Thanks, J.P. | |||

| 2 ways I use for wooden lures: - drill a hole from the belly towards the back. Include a rattle and close-up with epoxy - drill two to three holes next to eachother and add a rattle horizontally. Again close up with epoxy. I make my own rattles from brass tubing of 7mm diameter and the balls from ballbearings. Any questions, just ask | |||

| Haven't really had a need to ADD rattles since so many lures today come with them already. Besides, do they really work? For "killing" rattles, I've found that drilling a 1/4" hole on one end for inserting the nozzle and a small 1/32" hole on the other to serve as a vent works great for filling with high expanding foam. Just fill until foam starts coming out the vent... let it set up overnight.... and then seal the holes with a good glob of epoxy. I've had good luck with GREAT STUFF brand insulating foam. Another trick is to be strategic in where you "fix" the rattle. If it is a large caliber lead ball, the weight can be used to improve the action of the bait. I like to fix them on the topside of the lure so they roll better. Baits with smaller chambers like the Ernie (those things have like 10 chambers) can be filled with silicone too to add a little more weight to them. jlong | |||

| Yea, Great Stuff works great for filling in the old leakers. But its sure a pain to get off your fingers.[;)] What I am looking for is ideas on adding rattles to small cranks like Bagley DB6''s and Db4''s. | |||

| hi. there are many ways of doing such things its all about what you want or dont want. i can break it down better by e-mail if you wish i do play with this stuff all the time. to add rattels is not so tuff. first off like a depth raider drill a hole in the belly then add the source of the rattle bb'ss bird shot ball bearings etc. then take silicone spray and give the inside a squirt of this this will protect from any rust or corrosion that may ocure then cut a small pice of cork and fit it into the hole then test it in a bath tub to see if the whight is where you want it also try to pull it along i know not much room but this will give you an idea of how it will sound. then once you achive what you want you cut off the extra cork flush and cover with apoxy. to extract rattels do the same drill hole remove rattles then fill in with cork and apoxy over it filling in the bait with other stuff can kill the action and ballance of the lure. there are many ways to make your own rattles it fairly simple to do as well as the adding rattles to wood baits i do it to reefhawgs all the time. i also like to vary what i add to the lure like two #2shoot with two #5shoot and one #8shoot just an example this will give off diffrent tones i also vary the meatle of the rattle source as well to create diffrent tones . steel with lead or brass etc. if you want more details on speciffic ways to do diffrent baits or how to make rattles just e-mail me and ill be glad to help.
