Posts: 4269 Location: Ashland WI | Not quite all season, but one of my more memorable fish was one that I chased over a couple of days. I was sucker fishing in November and first had the fish chase a sucker on a Friday morning. Didn't show much interest, so I moved on and thought I would try back later. Came back that afternoon with the same result. I was able to get out early the next morning and went right back to the same spot, and the fish showed up again. Still pretty lazy, so once again I moved on. It was really windy that day and by mid afternoon I was ready to go home as it was very difficult to move the boat where I wanted and keep the sucker in position. I had tried that fish again (after the first try that morning), and it did not show itself, but (with the wind) I had an idea. I went back to that waypoint and put the trolling motor on spotlock. Over the next 2 hours, the fish showed up a few times but would not eat. About 30 minutes to dark I gave up and slowly moved on. I made it to the channel leaving that lake and thought, "one more try".. Let the wind take me back over the spot and put the motor on spotlock again. This time the fish ate after about 5 minutes. It was very close to moon-rise and sunset. Maybe that did it? Either way, one of my favorite fish stories. The fish was gray and vivid. Posts: 1247 Location: Walker, MN | I was fishing with clients on a calm sunny day in July and saw a nice fish basking on a shallow sand beach near a point that doesn't get fished much for muskies. After having this crew make few casts (unsuccessful), I made a mental note, and thought that this fish might eventually slide to the sweet-spot on the tip of the point where the shoreline rocks touch a nice 5' deep pocket. I was thinking a northeast wind could put her there to feed. Sure enough, two weeks later with perfect northeast winds I headed there. She ate my bucktail just as it entered the water. She jumped and rolled-over one of the boulders that was just off the shoreline. I could see she wasn't hooked well, and she came off on her second attempt to jump while I had my rod buried in the water. Fast-forward two more weeks and I was fishing with a client again. The wind was from the south, and we were fishing what happened to be the last day of a big tournament. The goal was to fish secondary spots and off the radar spots that I had seen fish on, to up his chances at fish that hadn't been bothered. Spot two for the day was the aforementioned point. The shallow south-facing shoreline adjacent to this point is water that I had never fished before, but decided to start there since the wind had been pumping in there for two days. The fish rose up and ate the very same bucktail just as it was pulled from the shoreline rocks and branches. You can see the scar I left on this fish when I had previously hooked her in the rocks. This is just one small example from this season, but these encounters/relationships/sagas with individual fish are what make muskies so awesome. I had fished this spot three times. Each time I encountered this fish it was over a hundred yards from where it had been seen previously, but it was somewhat predictable where she would be set-up given the wind and weather conditions each of these three days.
