Seeing if someone can point me in the right direction. I have a 2004 Suzuki dt 150 2 stroke. The motor starts and idles fine, but when I “punch it” the motor bogs down. If I back off the throttle, it will slowly climb out and then seems to be fine when cruising. Anyone have insight if this sounds like a bad fuel pump, clogged injectors, etc. hoping there is a easy fix, but realize those don’t happen often.

Hiya,

I would start by looking for and replacing a fuel filter that should be on the motor. On Most outboards have some sort of filter on them. Older models had a screen that was part of a fuel pump assembly, but being the age of your motor and it's size, I believe you will have some filter. If you take a look at the following parts diagram, I believe you are in need of replacing it which is part number 6...the filter assembly.

I would also suggest running a seafoam decarbonizer process where you inject decarbonator directly into the injection system to do a deep cleaning. This would be different than just dumping seafoam into the the tank and running it...this is much more concentrated.

My gut instinct says this will be a filter replacement.

When is the last time you changed the spark plugs? Sounds like text book plug fouling issues.

Hiya,

Plug fouling usually will create a sputtering engine and an inability to get full power as one or more plugs is no longer producing spark consistently.

I wouldn't count out changing plugs as with the two strokes of that vintage or older as those motors use more oil and plugs are really inexpensive to replace....I would look at plug changing on any older two stroke engine as a spring tune up...run out any fogging oil first in the spring after first start-up, Perform a decarbonizing process on the motor (maybe not every spring...depending on use), then change out the plugs.

In this case, it sounds like the engine is running alright, but is starving of fuel on quick acceleration.

RAM, I had a similar problem on a 2008 Suzuki DF140. Did all the right things, New gas, Gas additive, new filters, new spark plugs, drained the FVST..Only to find I had a pinched fuel line were it goes into the motor housing in the front of the motor..My motor ran fine but would not exceed 4300 RPM. Pinched line was it. At least now I have a clean fuel system. Runs like a top.
