Posts: 44 | I bought a rod from Cabelas bargain cave. The only thing wrong with it is the reel seat twists on the rod. The fore grip is tight and the butt is too. so I was thinking of drilling a hole on the bottom of the seat and thinning out some jb weld and squrtting in there or does anyone have a better idea. Thanks.

Posts: 1751 Location: Mt. Zion, IL | Use a syringe and try to fill 2-3 holes you still until it won’t take any more epoxy. I have had good luck with this on any of the rods I have had loose seats on. One “under the reel foot” close to the back, one under the “hood”, and one at the top of the threads in the slot on the bottom. Don’t drill a hole so big you can’t push the epoxy into the holes without just pooling it on the outside of the reel seat.

Posts: 1100 | I would highly recommend this type of setup for doing it. Did it to my BigDawg a couple of years back, made 5 holes approximately 3mm in diameter, and filled it with as much glue as possible, have bin rock solid ever sins. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Loctite-Epoxy-Five-Minute-Instant-Mix-0-4...

Posts: 44 | Since I'm allergic to a 2 part epoxy I gave it to a buddy of mine and he drilled 4 holes and used a syringe to push the epoxy in and it worked great. Thanks for the help.

Location: Ontario | I have similar problem on Okuma evx rods, the reel seat it self doesn't move but you cant tighten any reel enough to prevent it from slightly twisting in those clamps. Any ideas? Drives me crazy throwing heavy or baits with high torque.

Posts: 8834 | Never dealt with this. but... Drilling holes seems like a bad idea. If you accidentally drill into the blank wouldn't you be asking for a broken rod on the very next fish?

Posts: 1751 Location: Mt. Zion, IL | you do not want to drill the rod blank, that is correct. it is not hard to avoid hitting the blank if you are careful. I have never broken a rod I have repaired, but I work with hand and power tools every day.

Just to update... That did it, once again thanks!

Posts: 44 | My buddy said that it was hollow under the reel seat when he drilled it.

That hollow space exist because the reel seat is not glued directly onto the blank. The reel seat is glued to a set of arbors that make direct contact with the blank.

Posts: 1 | Just thought I would share that I bought a Cabelas Bargain rod a couple years ago. The length listed was inaccurate and I figured that's what was wrong. I never felt the reel twisting or anything wrong with it initially (Daiwa Lexa 400). However, I hooked a 48" ski on topwater and the reel popped completely out right when I set the hook. It was a bit of chaos in the boat, but we landed the fish with me doing the rod and my buddy holding the reel. I laughed my ass off, Musky are so hard to catch... and to have something that catastrophic go wrong and still get it in the net was amazing. I gave the rod to my dad and I don't think it's been used since, but I'd like to thank you for pointing out something to fix the problem and share a fun story.
