if you have a "smart" charger, I would think it would dumb it up. how good is the voltage regulator on a generator and then factor in the draw by the trolling motor.

I do have a brand new minnkota smart charger. Headed on a trip next week and my TM batteries have seen better days
I wanted to keep them.untill next spring and they have only died on my once in very high winds, but I would hate to have a high wind day and have them.be dead at 2pm and have no way to recharge without sitting at the dock. Worst case scenario I just drift while they re charge,

You're going to Bemidji area, right? Just roll with the ones you have and if they die run into town and buy new ones.

Just leave your big motor running. Having gas and a generator in the boat running sounds like a noisy hassle

If I had the $$ I'd love to run a pair of iota converters off a nice Honda EU generator. Adjust to whatever voltage you desire and the coverswill keep you at 100% even when running the troller. Lots of bowfishing guys use them

Like I said before I'm only killed those batteries once in the last two years and that was fishing into the wind running an ipilot track with 20 MPH winds.

I do all the time. I have a 1000EU Honda and MinKota charger. Run on ECO mode you hardly know its running.

Why bring a generator and a can of gas along everyday instead of just installing one of these? http://www.stealth1charging.com/

Hiya!!

Do you own a kicker motor? If so, tighten the turning nut enough so the kicker will not turn while at idle or just above. Then let it run straight to push the boat, and use the bow mount to adjust your path. I’ve done this plenty of times and it’s a wonderful way to save battery life on those windy days...

It also gives you peace of mind if the big motor goes down. You have a way back to camp or the ramp.

Steve.

That's a good idea Steve, but no kicker here...
