Subject: Ranger Key Pad Flashing Light

Hi Guys,

I've googled my issue with no consistent answers found online, so I figured I would reach out here as this forum usually provides a solid answer.

Here's the issue:

Once in a while the light on the stop button on my 620 key pad flashes. And no matter what I do, I cannot get the key pad to turn off. 1234 off should shut it down, it doesn't and continues to flash. In the past I've always equated it to low batter and when I plug the battery in the problem is solved.

This weekend I was on the Chip and Sunday morning was raining like an SOB. I went out and turned my bilge on. No issues. I went back about an hour later and my key pad light by the stop button was flashing. No matter what I did, it wouldn't turn off. AND it wouldn't let me start the motor either (even though I knew I had plenty of battery power).

Anyways, I did plug it in and charge for about 2 hours and then the problem was solved.

But the frustrating thing is what if I didn't have the ability to plug in? I know my battery was fine. The fact that the key pad cannot even be turned on or off concerns me.

Anyone else have these issues and or know how to solve them?

Thanks - Midge

I always thought a flashing light on the keypad meant a breaker was tripped on that circuit however I don’t know what a flashing stop button would mean? Does your boat have a main shutoff switch? My 08 620 has a main shutoff in the rear driver side compartment next to the starting battery that shuts off all power to the pad. If so maybe try turning that off for a few minutes then back on to see if that resets the issue.

Those things can fail, maybe the bran box needs to be diagnosed.

'18 620 with a Etec. Both panels were flashing, and horn blowing. Ended up loose wire in brainbox tucked in rear driver's side of boat. Open side storage lid and brainbox is behind plastic removable panel. Dealer fixed, not me.

The flashing light is an indicator that you have/will have a bilge pump issue. You can stop the flashing light by holding the STOP button in for 5 seconds and it will reset and the bilge pump will work.

The flashing light indicates a non switched breaker has tripped from a short. Push and hold for 5 seconds to reset it. Non switched items are, auto bilge float, radio, trim, 12v outlet, key on engine hot, electronics. It does not mean a weak battery unless the battery is causing the short.

I did forget to mention that I held the button down several times for over 5 seconds and nothing happened. I also do have a master shut off switch that I turned off several times.

That key pad has been replaced 3 times since 2010. Ugh, I hope it's not a bad key pad again.

Sheesh

3 key pads? You best check all the wires running from the keypad to the circuit board/box and make sure there is not a short/exposed wire somewhere. Its not likely 3 pads would be bad and another issue is causing problems.
