Today I was fishing on Tippy over in Indiana. Well my trolling motor was working just fine for about an hour or so. Then all of a sudden, when I hit the pedal, NOTHING. For some reason it took a crap on my in-between cast.

The is power running to it, because when I hit the "battery tester" button on the trolling motor the lights light up and tells me the battery has full power.

I am assuming the foot pedal is where my problem is, but I don't know.

I am not very educated in the world of trolling motors, but I did check the usual connections, etc....

It is a 50 lb, 12 volt Minn Kota. It is also fairly new, 2 years old or less.

I would appreciate any and ALL help.

Thanks in advance.

My advice is to take it to an authorized MinnKota shop if one is near by. My highly uneducated guess is a bad swithch. I have replaced a few in the old 3hp model they use to make. It's easey enough to do. Just a matter of knowing if that is what the problem is. From my personel expereince (with that 3hp & a few others) & from reading these boards, is that when a trolling moter has a problem it often times tend to be chronic. If affordable I would consider moving up to the Maxxum. Unless they have recently changed them they were a high quality trolling moter.

mine did that once{50lb pd} and it was the connecting prongs in the 2 plugs for the foot pedal, i spread apart the prongs a bit with a knife to make the plugs fit tighter together, that was it. also in-line fuses or even loose wingnuts on the battery, as you probably checked these...

You can contact them directly through their web site and there is a map of all service centers there as well. Mine just got back from their service department after some "user sustained damage". I was a bonehead. They took great care of me and the motor is back and working great.

Mike,

Not sure if you have a power drive or Max. series. If it's a Max. and it works on "continuous" mode but not "momentary" then the switch below the round pedal is bad. Their $10 and take about 5 minutes to install, I stock one in my tackle box.

If it's a Power Drive series and works only in "continuous" mode or not at all you probably have a bad spot in your pedal...Send to authorized service center.

Mike

YOu should no this answer from the Our Cave experience, most likely the relay that Norm had go out on him this spring, easy fix, just gonna cost you about $100 to by the part. Can you steer the motor and you are getting no power to the prop. You can jump the relay and check this out.

Good luck

It sounds like the "mother" board went bad. If you can get a replacement it isn't too hard to replace one.My motor did the same thing, same problems and that is what it was.I hope your is still under warranty...Paul

I ditto fishing fool's theory. Totally free repair if under warranty. An authorized repair shop can diagnose a mother board problem in a matter of minutes, at least they did for mine.
