Greetings from Duluth, MN! I've decided to try my hand at some muskie fishing this summer and I don't think my current pike setup is stout enough for muskie. I already have a Shimano Calcutta 400b reel and am looking for a rod. I know different rods work better for different types of fishing but for now I'm just looking for a decent all around rod. I'm a little taller than most people so I'd like to take advantage of that and am hoping to get a rod around 9ft but am open to anything really. Hoping to spend no more than $200 but I'll go a little over for the right rod. Not sure if I should go XH or MH on the power.

I might end up using this setup for catfish fishing too.

There are tons of options under $200. I like Tackle Industries - a 9' or 9'6" XH is a good all around rod.

Tackle Industries

I think I'm gonna end up going with one of these in a 9ft. Thanks. Now I need to decide if I want a MH or XH. Since I'll be new to this muskie business I think I'm just going to use most of my pike lures for now and maybe pick up a few slightly bigger baits. I think I'm just gonna go with a MH and if I really get into this and want to fish bigger baits I can always get a XH.

+1 for the TI XH.
You can use your pike rod for smaller lures.

Xh chaos would be my choice. TI is a good option as well.

An XH rod will give you more options on what you can throw. It will be better for double ten bucktails, a MH will load up in a figure eight. It really depends on what you plan on throwing but the best multipurpose rod would be an XH.

St, Croix "Mojo Musky" rods are great. My 8' is great for spinners, cranks and jerk-twitch baits.

Also check out the all new Vexan Big Game rods: https://vexan.com/product/vexan-inshore-rods/

Guys in Florida are using these for gator fishing! Up to 900lb gators caught. Also shark fishing, Snook, Tarpon, etc. Same actions as the TI MH, XH and XXH too.

For a new musky fisherman looking for a rod and not knowing how well you might like the sport, I would not spend a lot of money. You already have a good reel so I would seriously look at the Cabela Predator Musky rods for $130. They have various lengths and models line and lure wgt. davemp

I'd agree on the Cabelas rods, for the money they are pretty nice, (buddy has a 9 footer), they go on sale sometimes for like 100 bux... for 200 bux you can get 2
Just looked on their site they also have Musky Innovations Bulldawg rods for 99.99 each, another good option to be able to get 2 for your budget
