Posts: 98 | Anybody using custom Legends? Looking at getting the 7’6 Jerk made. Wasn’t sure if I should keep it 7’6 or go to 8 ft?

Posts: 393 | I would consider the weight and action of your new rod besides the length. I have benn very happy with a custom 8ft predator made for jerk baits. I took 3 inches off the tip of a predator heavy blank. It has worked great for me.

Posts: 753 | I have a LTS The Jerk I had Thorne Brothers make last year. I kicked it out to 7'10. I have a Loomis Steel custom that is 8', it is the ultimate Phantom Rod but a little lite in the tip for a few others things so I had "The Jerk" made. I love the added length when fighting fish. I went with a Syncork Lonnie grip up front and a cork split grip in the rear. I would not hesitate to go a little longer if you want to...

Posts: 98 | Ok thanks for the answers and advice. Mojo what did you go with in the butt section of the rod? I see the Legends come standard with 15 inches was thinking of extending to 17-18 inches.

Posts: 298 | Another option is to choose a longer blank and have it cut down. For jerks I use an 8’4” XH predator with a 17” handle. 9’ blank and they chop off from the bottom. With the longer handle it fishes a touch shorter and putting a balancer on the longer handle really makes it fish well. 8’ is nice cause it’s the minimum I need for good 8s. Not super important with jerks but fish are dumb and sometimes they like to swim in a circle before biting.

I see the Legends come standard with 15 inches was thinking of extending to 17-18 inches. I went with the standard split grip spacing/length in the rear end...Unless I am looking for more leverage (rubber rod etc...) then I kick stuff out to 18 inches otherwise for a jerk bait rod for me personally I do not need/want anymore in the back than stock...I think it really comes down to personal preference as there is not a scientific reason (easier casting with a longer lever) to have one...

Posts: 98 | Ok sounds good. I agree really don’t need the leverage of the longer butt section for glides and jerks.. Mojo you added 4 inches to the top then to take it out to 7’10?

Posts: 753 | 4 Inches added onto the butt...I left the tip as is... (sounds funny)

Posts: 98 | Your post above said you didn’t add on to the back? Lol. I’m confused?

Posts: 753 | Mine was a custom rod. Take a 7'6 LT Blank. Add four more inches to the rear. Build the handles to normal specs and you end up with a 7'10 rod that has a stock sized handle and an additional 4 inches to the length of the rod past the fore grip... Make sense?

Posts: 354 Location: Western U.P. | Some things to possibly consider. 1. Is this for jerk baits? You did not say specifically. 2. If so, do you have a boat, and do you primarily jerk to the side, or up down? 3. If you have a boat, fish with the size rods you are considering before purchasing something that may not fit you, or your fishing style. If you don't have a 7'6", choke up on a longer rod so it has the correct length. 4. There is no one correct size. You may be surprised as to the size rod that works best for you.
